Sunroof Pops Up and Out?

Couldn’t believe it when I saw it today, but does the G12’s sunroof pop up and out of the roof when open instead of down and into the roof, as with the F02 and prior generations?

Looked a little strange, as if shouldn’t be. Cost savings? Headroom benefit?

Why not? Why would you want that dirty, bird-pooped sunroof in your breathing space? Plus there's the rear pano to contend with.

What's shown is the sunroof portion of the panoramic roof option.

Sunroof = opening above front passengers
Moonroof = glass above front passengers
Panoramic Roof = glass above both front and rear passengers

Are you saying your car doesn't have the panoramic roof option?

If so, must mean that G12 sunroofs without the pano option go down and into the roof, as before.

A Panoramic Glass or Panoramic glass with LED roof is an option.

Nowhere in the options is there any reference to any other option or anyone calling the different halves of the pano roof by different names.

Even builds with the pano roof option have a sunroof component.

Car is a MY 2017 UK Model.
