Appropriate Tire Size?

My 2011 750i Xdrive, purchased a year ago with 23,500 miles, has 245 40 19's on all four corners. This is consistent with the "tire size - tire inflation" plaque on the B-pillar however, everything I've researched makes me believe the rears should be 275's on 9.5" wheels. I started looking into this because the rear end would "shimmy" when going over any uneven road surface, including man hole covers.
I'm wondering if anyone else has a similar squared up condition? Is this normal?

Correction; tires are 245 45 19's

Hmm quiet strange as your tire size should be

Front: 245/45-19
Rear: 275/40-19

Only the 18" are not staggered

I totally agree. I've gone to Tire Rack to find a set of tires and when I plug in the parameters for my car I get a message indicating that tires for my car are unavailable. The owner's manual indicates the sizes you've verified.
Any thoughts on what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

I am a stickler for oem so whatever the car came with from the factory is what I like to have on the car

in your case my first assessment would be to take rims of and make sure they are staggered meaning the front rm should be 19x8.5 in the front and 19x9.5 in the rear - note the sizes are wrriten on the inside of the rim. If you have the right rims and not the 19x8.5 all around then its just a case of getting the right size tires for the rear.

Now note that I do not believe you should have any issue running 19x8.5 all round as they do make 18" non staggered, however if you have the wrong tire size on the wider rim that could be a problem.

Note I am just throwing out suggestions as I am not an expert but your best bet is take it to a tire shop or indy who can advise you much better

My 2012 750 has the same size tires as yours. The wheels/tires are not staggered. I have no idea why.

One reason yours may not be staggered is because you have Xdrive.

OEM wheels are pretty expensive so I would just keep the square setup. Have you tried lowering the tire pressure so that the tires can absorb impacts better?

Are you using 18" or 19" as I am not aware of any 19" setup that were not staggered even if its an X drive which is what I have. But it may have been ordered that way hmm interesting

These are suppose to be the OEM sizes for each wheel available from the factory for the car

Original Equipment Wheel Diameter: 18"
245/50-18
Original Equipment Wheel Diameter: Front 19" / Rear 19"
Front: 245/45-19
Rear: 275/40-19
Original Equipment Wheel Diameter: Front 20" / Rear 20"
Front: 245/40-20
Rear: 275/35-20
Original Equipment Wheel Diameter: Front 21" / Rear 21"
Front: 245/35-21
Rear: 275/30-21

19". I'll double check the width on the back of the wheels to confirm they are not staggered since they are sitting in the garage.

But I'm almost certain the wheels aren't staggered if the sizes on the door jam are not staggered and the rear tires would have looked stretched.

I was lazy and only took pics of the back 3 wheels but you guys get the idea. One of these days I'm gonna give them a good cleaning.

Great - so that solves it that they do have 19" that came non staggered. So the OP may have another issue as oppose yo incorrect tire size. A issue that I have encountered in the past is that it seems that no one can properly balance my wheels apart from the stealer. I would have the tires check and have them re-balance and see what occurs then.

Thanks everyone for your replies and feedback. I've confirmed that when ordering a 7 you can specify/choose the wheel/tire setup you want. Unless you special order one, the 7's where delivered to the dealers in both configurations and if you were not aware of the difference you could get a set of squared up 245's on 19's.
So Wavy's door plaque pretty much solves the mystery of the "Appropriate Tire Size". Both the squared up and staggered sets are correct.
Thanks again everyone.

I have 19" 245 & 275 as summer wheels and winter wheels are 245 / 245 19". The thing is, 245 square setup is much better in terms of "shimming". Using 275 on back wheels, the car tends to pull to all directions much easier on uneven surfaces than with my 245 winter wheels. Also 245 are less noisier for some reason.. maybe because the contact area is smaller?

I'm thinking to get 245 square setup for summer too.
