I'll be over in Germany a number of times this year with the car, my dad lives over there so I drive over fairly regularly. Maybe if timings work out we can meet up but it depends on when the baby comes and from when I will be tied to staying at home! |

Not only that but you'll be utterly tired having a baby. Last thing I imagine you'd want is a long trip. That and having a baby changes things, you'll want to stay home and spend time with your new son / daughter anyway. Contrats as having a kid is one of the great things to happen to someone, almost as exciting as a new car |

I'll see what I can do to translate for you, a proper dream car FastLaneJB
Besides the 007 individual options, can't even think of anything that is missing! Great that yours is moving now a pace as well, hope you get it soon, you've been very patient in waiting! Likely you’ll get good news soon, shouldn’t be long now. Today was a stunning evening drive through the new forest and cross country with sunshine and clear roads! Spring is here (for a day)...

That sounds a cool feature of the M5 ^ another car I have always meant to give a spin but never done...will have to ask the dealer when mine is getting serviced to try the 760 or M5 if I can arrange it in advance. (very dangerous that though!), service is still a couple of months away.
Heh, yes, seen that we're supposed to get some more cold weather and snow potentially this weekend...hoping not. I washed the car today and could get rid of the salt and dirt from the last few weeks so she's looking very prim and proper tonight, would hate to see her dirty again so quickly. Did smile as it was getting quite dark by the time I drove through Bath and with the traffic, I noticed that the chap behind me had to hold a hand up to stop being blinded by the intensity of my brake lights (when this clean!)...Good thing he didn't get in me 'frickin laser sights! Re: weather and borrowing others hard work!: one of the best gigs I ever did was two years in a row I went with the Canadian Navy and did promotional tour up the Great Lakes in the Summer...6 weeks of bliss, go for a spin during the days, do some diving with National Geographic (I was on a ship that had manned submersibles and mixed gas divers, hence the need for a meteorologist as hard to dive or recover divers if you can't find them again or recover them due to seas, etc...) and then each night back in port in some new place and be able to check out new locations and stunning scenery all up and down the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes region...something that people pay really silly money to do privately if they are lucky! Anyway, during both stints, for nearly 4 weeks of the trips, I could just tune into a couple of radio stations and hear the forecasts, situation and such and then check one or two charts of my own (instead of proper 4 hour slog) to give the captain a weather briefing each day and then bob was my uncle and I could suntan and eat ice cream....Ah, the good old days! Was good while it lasted...imagine the same for V12's going forward. Safe travels.

However I do fancy a nice road trip type hotel with the new car. Scotland North Coast seems like an obvious bet as it should have amazing roads and views plus don't have to drive on the wrong side of the road. Though a nice trip across Europe as well at some point. Have a question come to think about it. When I took my old 335d to Europe I noticed that the HUD would translate the speed limits into mph which was cool. However with a fully digital dash now does the car change from miles to km when your over there? As in the whole analog speedo. Seems like an obvious thing to do when you've a fully digital dash. |

To the questions: settings, you can adjust the settings to be metric (all displayed settings so cockpit, HUD, control panel, etc...) for the time you are there and you can now adjust the headlights to also be 'correct' for the continent as well so you don't have to buy the stupid sticker for the headlamps anymore. (if you did in the past)...some voodoo beam splitting functionality is reduced or limited but it works. All via idrive. Hope that helps and is what you were asking?

Yeah that sounds good. I'm not an excessively fast driver generally, I'd have lost my license quite easily if I was. Think in a 7 a sensible cruising speed in a convey makes sense. We'll need to keep a sensible distance anyway so none of the super mini's dragged into orbiting our cars gravity field clash
Yeah I can adjust the headlights on my M5 for Europe so no stupid stickers there either. The standard car was Xenons where that's not possible but got the upgraded Adaptive LED's. However I think an earlier generation of BMW's LED headlights as they aren't as good as videos I've seen on the newer 7's. Let alone lasers |

I do wonder if some narrow roads have lay-bys big enough for two sevens to fit? We could congest Scotland (that would be a hard border!) I did read about the earlier LED's on BMW's being less bright, didn't have them on the F01 (xenon, non adaptive) so can't comment. Did you want to start a separate thread on the road trip to discuss that? Hope you get some movement in the car this week, can't wait to see the pics and hear your thoughts on new to you features and coming from the M5. You'll need to watch out though that you don't end up a 'princess' like me...(although in the hierarchy, you'll be a 'queen' for sure in that stunning M760Li. Used the whole body seat massage for the first time in a long time last night...damn is that good and had me smiling away like no one's business, must have been a sight!

Just had a call from my dealer and the car is now moving for port. He's got it estimated to be with him the week beginning 26th March so much sooner than the online people were willing to say.
Annoyingly I'm away for a long weekend at Easter so if it's not in Mon / Thur that week I wouldn't be able to pick it up. Still is what it is. Quote:
I obviously nothing scientific to proof this but I'm now writing it on the Internet so that makes it true. However I suspect the M5 might occasionally suck up a hedgehog or such off the road side when you rev it into the turbos. It's got some big intakes. Maybe even makes like 50 bhp extra for a moment at the same time. Quote:

Might actually be best to get it after Easter as the traffic is likely to be nuts and you'd not be able to really enjoy it properly for those first drives/memories. So annoying but maybe for the best...let's wait and see, the dealer is going to want to get it on the books as handed over before month end so that may work in your favour. Fingers crossed it comes when it is good for you. Quote:
(regarding the lack of wildlife in your area these days...) May be why M cars are banned in the New Forest? (not true before anyone asks...)

The 760 is a nice realistic 'dream' machine these days, maybe in a few years (if it's still around and we're still in the UK) when I've done the travelling I still want to do and is a higher priority for me right now and am willing to divert any extra funds to a car instead, let's see what life throws at us...I'd like to live in at least one more country with a different culture and language to learn before we ultimately settle down somewhere...Appreciate that you and others will have a better financial situation that allows you to have the car and eat your cake too...and good on you, we're happy but a bit more constrained, not complaining though, we've got it good! What feature are you most looking forward to in the new car FastLaneJB?

If the 760 had a finance deal like most makes I'd not have got one. As an example a 911 Turbo S comes in around the same value for the car but the monthly payments are double what you'd pay on the 760 before you even glance at the options list. It's just a cracking deal is all. I'd also say if your doing a lot of mileage for work it'll depend on how they cover that. If your getting the lower company car rates they only go up to a 3 litre car, you'd never cover the fuel costs. Also for places that pay 45p a mile thats enough but you only get that tax free for up to 10k miles, after that it's down to 25p a mile. I imagine will be making a little bit of a loss per mile there as well. Still I'm not in this without the obvious knowledge it's going to cost me for the privilege. However it is a nice privilege I'm prepared to pay for to have as I do love a nice motor Well I want to try some of the stuff I've yet to have a go with. Laser lights, night vision and sky lounge at night would probably be the obvious ones as only had it during the day. Basically get it out at night to see it in all it's illuminated glory |
