car struggles to start n63

bmw 750 2011 n63 engine / new to me just bought it with engine gremlins

Hi, i been having issues to start the car. Bimmer takes like 3-5 seconds to start, and when it starts the engine shakes and shuts off, sometimes not always.

1.- i checked the codes and all cylinders on bank 2 had misfires. 305-306-307-308, p0300, p0018, (p13b7 / 131101)

2.- went and replace all spark plugs on bank 2, and swap the coils to bank 1.

3.- checked the codes again and have this error pop up / the rest cleared up.

p0018.

p13b7 / 131101

p0306

4.- then proceed to inspect both camshaft sensors on bank 2 and swapped them to bank 1.

5.- checked the codes again, reset codes, and no luck, p0018 went on again,

6. proceed to check crankshaft sensor, to my surprise it was covered in oil and sort of grease, turns out the oil mixed with water from a water leak on the back of the engine from a plastic pan.

7.- clean sensor and reset codes, p0018 was gone for like 3 start cycles, even tho, engine struggles to start. i keep the engine running for 5 mins each cycle. runs better now but shaky.

a) at this point engine doesn't shut off as it did before, even gas pedal works better, before i press gas and car shut off, now it revs.

b) i think crankshaft sensor is bad cause it was so damped in oil, even had to clean up the connector.

but somehow it helped for a moment.

c) this are pending codes, that havent been confirmed by ecu once i cleared them. ( 3 cycles ago )

p0300

p0307

8.- my next step is:

a) to inspect and replace the vanos solenoids, change the oil cause it smells old, i miss a dipstick in here. computer says its due 400 miles

b) pcv valve, looks fine i will remove it just to inspect it, any pointers what i should look for in here.?

Question
guys need help!

1.- what else should i been checking?

2.- should i go straight forward with the timing chain replacement, or try the solenoid approach.?

thanks for reading this and taking your time to help a fellow n63 gremlin killer. lol

just an update....

so i have finally installed ISTA+, thanks to JellyStyle , couple youtube videos and its running ok.

so i have this codes:

131201
131101
140601 - misfire on cyl 6

***** ALSO i have this weird code ( DME 200500 - INTERNAL FAULT MONITORING, EXTERNAL TORQUE REQUEST TRANSMIT SIGNAL IMPLAUSIBLE )

will try to delete all fault codes and start fresh

i replace the crankshaft sensor and run the " clear adaptations procedure "

im following ISTA+ guidelines to fix the issue (131101) but suggest fix the misfire first on cyl 6, cause its possible this can affect the other codes i have.

im going to perform fuel injector test, i already swapped the coils and spark plugs.

as mention above car starts , but it takes like 4-5 cranks to make it to start.

let me know what should i do, my guess is i have an electrical problem with he camshaft codes - stretched chain or both. also a problem with cyl 6, bad fuel injector or valves not working properly. lets see.

Update 2

So I went and test the compression on bank 2, all 4 cylinders 5-6-7-8 have 60 psi compression wtf. I went and checked bank 1 and all 4 cylinders (1-2-3-4 ) have 165-170 psi. What can be wrong? Is it the timing ? Valves ? Piston rings would have different readings right?

depends on what the position of each cylinder and valves are in to get the reading.

i will perform a wet compression test today just to rule out the piston rings.

Have you cross with this before? my guess, timing off, valves not closing properly... im out of ideas right now. Whole bank 1 is ok 160 ish PSI and whole bank 2 has this crappy 60 psi reading on 5-6-7-8 cylinders. Maybe i have a shot on just doing a valve job and save the engine.

on the plus side i fix my lighter, was a blown fuse #65, a win a is a win LOL
