Oil Issue

So today I've had to leave my car with the dealer a warning came up on Monday saying oil level maximum. They updated the software on Monday so I thought it was due to that but the dealer tells me they have to drain it etc and they have another one in with the same issue and its a known issue with BMW now.......


Anyone else had this?

I'm at about 2.2k ... but the oil level is fine its just the software (they think) that is telling my car its over max. Should get it back tmrw so can update then as to what they say.

Dealer called to say mine is done, but he has another 3 in since Friday Morning...... seems its the software updatew they did - needs a bit of tweaking to read the oil level correctly

hi chap, did this update the idrive to the version you can see in the new 5 series? I wonder if the layout is going to be possible for 2016 7 series i drive 5 owners

the software is accurate. your engine is overfilled.

you can replace your engine oil filter which will remove approx 500ml

Hi, thanks but they confirmed it was fine, I've had it 2 months so can't believe after 2k the oil level had increased......

Seems the new software wasn't coded right.... but I need to do a 60 mile trip or so to confirm its cleared...

Lets see....

Hey mate, no I asked that but there is no difference I can see - they said it must be internal software changes ????????

i had a G12 from your neck of the woods LCH in Elstree had 16k but was knackered... vibrated at idel and when I started horrible shuddering from the drive chain (I persume). ...... made me really miss my car had a when they drove it up all clean

Software and sensors... ugh.

I haven't seen this on my G12, however on my F01 I had, I had an issue where the service indicator for my brakes did rapidly increase my need for replacement despite having plenty of pad left. Had the software reloaded once, and later the sensors were recalibrated. Oh well, car is gone now, and in my G12. Still new, so hopefully I dont have the oil issue use or hyper-active brakes wear sensors.

was it cleared?

once the engine is full warmed up, stop on a level surface and check oil level one more time with the engine on.

these sensors are extremely accurate. I think action should be taken if it warns you that the engine is overfilled.

So far all good done about 40 miles since I got it back but not 60 in one go... will do 200 odd next wekend so will know by then but so far so good

Sorry just to add I did the manual check as well after warm up and level is fine....

So checking on Friday I have found that I now have the option to close the wing mirrors on locking as on the F10... I saw somewhere on this forum people saying this will be updated in newer 7s so guessing mine is now bang upto date
