This car is going to hurt a lot of feelings of those that own much more expensive cars.

My modded C6Z was a blast & I have driven the C7Z. This thing is going to insane.

I think the opposite. On the full course at VIR, its 2.5 seconds faster than the Z06. Over a lap around 2 minutes long, that's a big difference.

That difference will be magnified at the Ring.

It's here. After months of speculation, spy shots and fleeting public tests captured on video, the 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1 is finally here. It looks vicious, like the already hot Z06 moonlighting as a GT3-spec Le Mans racer. The rear wing looks large enough for light aircraft duty and the front splitter could help ZR1 owners offer snow-plow service during the winter. The engine is so tall that the 755-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V8 literally pokes out of the hood. This is the ne plus ultra of any production car ever badged with a bowtie.

At the heart of every Corvette is a rip-roaring, fire-spitting V8. Anything else would be tantamount to treason, causing marches on Bowling Green calling for blood and the ashes of Zora Arkus-Duntov. The new LT5 might be named in honor of the 1990 ZR-1's (C4 had the hyphen) engine, but eschews that V8's dual-overhead cams. Instead, this pushrod V8 uses an Eaton supercharger that's 52-percent larger than the one on the Z06. The throttle body has a diameter of nearly 4 inches. All in, the LT5 makes 755 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 715 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm. That's a 300-horsepower leap over the base Corvette.

In addition to the extra displacement from the blower, the LT5 makes use of both direct and port fuel injection. Not only should this help fuel flow, it should slow the carbon buildup that occurs with direct-injected engines. It uses a more efficient intercooler, too, helping prevent the heat-soak issues that plagued the Z06. The supercharger and intercooler are so large that the hood is open in the middle, raising a big middle finger to pedestrian crash standards. It sits three inches higher than the standard car. The whole front end has been honed and shaped to feed air into the engine and driveline. Four new radiators bring the total to 13.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through either a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic. Both are the same as the ones found in the Z06, gear ratios and all. If it follows the Z06's trend, the car might actually be quicker if you let the computer handle the shifting. Still, save the manuals and all that jazz. Tadge Juechter, chief Corvette executive engineer, says that the manual is more robust and the preferred option for track use.

This is insane. What a complete package that's gonna completely annihilate the entire field. Might need this to sit beside the ACR.

Well done GM.

Corvette ZR1- 755 HP Damn

I think there was already a post on this but I couldn't find it so I'll put this one up.....now for my Canadian friends I don't think Kathleen Wynne, Zoolander or Climate Barbie will approve of a car that can consume so much fuel that it requires two fuel delivery systems.......take that EV's!

Sometimes, General Motors gets a car so very right. The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has a spec sheet so good, we want to frame it.
It’s quite simply the fastest, and most powerful road car Chevrolet has ever built. The numbers are 755 horsepower and 710 lb.-ft. of torque; Chevrolet engineers achieved those numbers fitting the ZR1’s LT5 6.2L V8 engine with a supercharger that’s 52 per cent larger than the one fitted to the current Z06.
In fact, it rams so much air down the V8’s throat that it needs two fuel systems to feed it; the motor uses direct injection and supplemental port injection. It also wears a throttle body that’s a full*nine centimetres across its diameter.*

Putting 755 horsepower to the ground requires proper rubber. A lot of it. And to that order, the ZR1 is fitted with steamroller-spec 335-section rear tires. The brakes are equally serious carbon ceramic units with six-piston calipers at the front. GM’s Magnetic Ride Control is fitted as standard. It’s also available with a seven-speed manual, or if you want to be less cool, an eight-speed automatic.*
The aggressive bodywork features an obnoxious – but no doubt necessary – rear wing that GM claims is bolted directly to the chassis and not just the bodywork. But the real work has been done on the hood; the larger supercharger made the engine much taller than the cooking-grade unit and that caused an issue with hood height. GM’s solution was to simply make the supercharger cover look like part of the hood. Part of what looks like the hood is literally bolted to the supercharger, meaning it rumbles and shakes with the drivetrain. It’s a shaker hood!*
The ZR1 will go on sale next spring as a 2019 model. It’s expected to cost somewhere in the low $100,000 range.

Amazing. Low $100s, the Vette really is the last of the true performance bargains out there. Some of the closeout deals for the 2017 models I'm seeing right now are incredible. A dealership around here has brand new 2017 2LT Stingrays for $47,500 out the door. If I didn't love my Z4M so much I'd be buying one right now.

It's shocking when you see where HP/torque and performance is going, I just bought a 96 993 Porsche. A great car at 285HP and I love the thing. Given up the Z4MC for it was a tough choice, and then I see for the same money I could get a GT350 demo with 500+HP, or a brand new Alfa 4C. You see what Chrysler is doing with HP, the Camaro's etc. Some of these cars are getting into Super car territory at a fraction of the price.....shit I remember when I was just getting into cars and I though 250HP was a lot.

Where does it end?

I know, I remember you agonizing over the decision!

Just my opinion, but if you've never driven an Alfa 4C, be prepared to be disappointed. I'm perhaps the biggest roadster lover on the planet, and was all prepared to sell the Z4M and buy a 4C Spider.....until I test drove one. I went in amped beyond belief, I wanted to love the car. After about 10-15 minutes of driving, I knew right away it wasn't the car for me. It wasn't 1/2 as fun to drive as my Z4M, and really didn't feel much quicker. The power/brakes all needed to be really pushed, whereas in the Z4M everything is instant. I hated the paddle shifter (well I hate ALL paddle shifters), and the carbon tub really protudes in on your left side so it's hard to get your left leg comfortable while driving. I was looking at the sticker price too thinking "$75k for this?!?". The motor is pretty much maxed out as it is, there's little room for improvement. I can go get an ESS kit for my Z4M for under $10k installed and just have a hoot! No point to get a 4C!

I couldn't get out of the thing fast enough and back into my Z4M, there was absolutely nothing I liked about the car!

Anyone remember when we thought that the muscle car was dead after the many smog laws and whatnot? These cars, and many others merely prove what can be done with new technology, and computers. The specs on this car are just amazing.

this thing must be absolutely violent, the power in my ZL1 (100 less, and a fair bit heavier) is ridiculous and makes me giggle like an idiot every time i mash the skinny pedal, it a good time to be a car fan

This is How the 2019 Corvette ZR1 Makes 950 Pounds of Downforce

Quote:
Because everyone wants more ZR1.

Sure, the Chevrolet Corvette’s new supercharged LT5 V8 is a huge part of the car’s transformation into an allegedly fire-spitting supercar slayer, but its the ZR1’s revised front and rear aerodynamics that turn it into a real track basher.

It starts at the nose, where the ZR1 debuts a Corvette-first underwing which Chevy says trickled down from race car world. Air is funneled through a space between the front splitter and closeout panel which generate’s front downforce and helps pinch the air, creating a mild venturi effect which accelerates airflow under the nose (dark blue) and squishes the front tires into the road. You can see how the strakes (turquoise) help guide air through the underwing.

Airflow under the car becomes more turbulent aft of the nose as it swirls around the bottom of the engine and the rear transaxle. A rear diffuser wasn’t possible due to the placement of the Corvette’s stock mufflers. The C7.R GTLM avoids this problem by using side exit exhausts.

The key to the ZR1’s two-hundred-and-something top speed is the standard low rear wing. According to Chevy, the smaller pedestal wing creates 20 percent less drag than the optional adjustable high wing, but still generates more downforce than Z06’s wicker bill spoiler.

Serious track shoppers can opt for the available ZTK Performance Pack, which tacks huge endplates onto the front splitter and swaps the low wing for a high mounted version offering five degrees of adjustability. The end plates are creating additional downforce by extending the high-pressure zone (red) further across the front splitter, which also translates to increased pressure (green) climbing up the front fenders.

Whereas the standard setup only shows high-pressure downforce creation at the leading edge of the rear spoiler, the high wing shows high to mid-pressure (orange and yellow) downforce creation over a majority of its surface.

Lastly, there’s the effect of airflow on the car’s cooling. The ZR1 uses the power steering, differential, and transmission cooling module from the Z06, plus five additional heat exchangers– four of which sit hidden behind the car’s gaping air intakes. The side intakes channel air through the intercoolers and brake ducts before spitting it out fore of the front wheels, helping smooth airflow downstream. Air hitting the middle radiator is funneled through the engine bay and out through the LT5’s top-mounted heat exchanger before being picked up with the rest of the air traveling over the car’s roof.

You can also see how the Corvette’s rear quarter panel vents work, air is captured by the vents and forced (yellow) downwards towards the transmission and differential coolers.
