Elon should take some presentation skills training classes if he wants to do those presentations himself.

There are going to be some spectacular crashes once these things get out on the road.

Am I the only one struggling to find a "roadster" in the Roadster pics?

New Tesla

Did u see it? BMW needs to catch up. I8 can do it but it has to be 100% electric and must have better steering feel. At 130k starting price it will be a bargain

Vapor ware with handmade parts and terrible quality vs a proven product made from carbon fiber. We initially were considering a Model 3 but will likely buy (err lease) an i3s.

Yeah but Tesla is still in its infancy has some growing to do, BMW for as big as they are should have done a lot better and be further along than the i3 as is. Electric is the way of the future, I hope BMW can do better, for sure others will be. Good luck with your purchase, I'm a BMW owner and appreciate others that love the brand too. I just don't think they are quite there yet. I see much promise with the i8 in the future.

Those numbers, while impressive, doesn't concern me. Elon Musk has a history of overselling and not delivering. I'll hold my judgment until then.
This were my exact thoughts.

As stated, it's just a lease. The range is fine for our needs, but certainly would be nice if it were more in line with a Bolt or Model 3.

I'm actually pretty down on BMW recently, but the i3 was fun to drive in a way the F and G chassis cars seem to have lost.

Knee-jerk questions and statements from an eternal skeptic:

- Tire life may be worse than the worst tire-wear car of all time, the Gen 1 Acura NSX. So owners can bank on spending $2k every 3-4K miles for new rubber.

- The weight question is a good one ... but if the majority of it is low in the chassis, weight may not matter nearly as much as people think. What will matter more is balance and suspension tuning -- neither of which is a strength of Tesla's.

- As with all EVs, straight-line performance is stratospheric. The real question is will the car handle as a 'roadster' should handle. I'm not optimistic about that potential Nuerburgring time.

- Tesla's 'other' introduction is what I've felt EV's true long-term niche market is for many years: commercial tractor motors. Mark my words: EVs will transform the consumer pickup truck market -- which many of you will know has emcompassed THE best-selling vehicles in the U.S. for decades -- in 5-10 years. All that's been needed is to develop a motor and battery array that can consistently create high torque under heavy tow loads. That's now been done.

Agreed. at a Quarter Million US dollars ($5 Billion Canadian), I'd expect the car to look better than it does. Not that it looks bad, it just doesn't look like a car in that premium price range. The BMW i8 looks better, as does the new 2018 Z4 at 1/5 of the price. No arguing with the crazy performance though.

If Tesla can successfully produce this car and satisfy the numbers Musk claims:

GAME OVER

This will change the way we think of performance cars. You can say bye-bye to the ICE not long from now.

Model 3 production problems be damned, I should probably have kept my TSLA stock. I wonder what it will open at tomorrow?

Of course all the questions remain:

Q: Can the grid keep up with an electric driving population?
A: It will have to and it will adapt because where there is profit, there is motivation.

Q: Will pollution get worse now that we need more energy to power the grid?
A: I don't think it can get worse. Best case is it gets better or stays the same. Figure fuel transportation and refinement and an electric car based infrastructure is still the better choice once we get the kinks worked out.

Q: Are there enough chargers to power an electric car population?
A: See first question's answer.

I would think that, on the downside, this car would be almost uninsurable.

Finally, an EV that can do 500+ miles on a charge. Now I hope that trickles down to the sedans and then I might save to buy one.

I love my i3, and I timed my lease for the Model 3 release, which looks like it will be for naught. No matter, I like my i3 so much I plan on extending another 6 months and then see what happens.
