I always had fun driving that car, even when it only had 48 hp. It was one of the most modified diesel smarts in North America though. Was like driving a slot car. Who needs power when you never have to slow down for a corner.

Depends my x5d with jbd is decent as a daily and serves it's purpose towing also. For a car I prefer less weight over more power. If you have both even better.

My JB4 F80 is the perfect HP for a daily to me. Not too much that it is impossible to drive or has reliability issues but fast enough to have fun on the drive to work if I want to.

I remember back about 10 years ago when I was happy with 225WHP on my tuned RSX-S with I/H/E. Then I moved onto a car that had 275WHP, then 300WHP and now the F80 M3 that has about 380WHP on a good day. After slowly increasing thru the cars I find that 300 is a perfect solid HP number. Just enough to keep you from going to nuts on the road and more than enough to pass 95% of the cars on the highway when needed.

I daily a 380whp 300zx and it will get to highway speeds and beyond with ease and 90's jdm rwd sport cars are always cool. It sucks way too much gas for a daily, driving a stick in highway 80 and 880 traffic sucks, the suspension isn't sophisticated as the ohlins on my m3 and the bose speakers suck (stopped working). I'm thinking about going back to a v6 camry for daily- just enough power to pass civics, saves a ton more gas, fly's under the radar and i don't need to worry much about crappy roads, speed bumps, and steep driveways.

I had a Nissan Altima V6 a few years back...it had 115K on the original plugs...I never did it..just a big job taking off the whole plenum and a bunch of hidden bolts and hoses. I guess that's why they recommend changing at 105k..several hour job...for plugs, no thanks.

Man, back in HS we used to love:

Nissan 300ZX TT
Toyota Supra Turbo
Mazda RX7
Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4
Acura NSX

We'd pine about the Skyline GTR and EVO since they weren't sold here at the time.

These were the KINGs of the road back then. With the exception of the NSX, these were all "attainable" for regular folks. Everyman's supercars.

It still is. If someone wanted to swap me a Supra Turbo 6spd for my M235i, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Assuming the Supra isn't beat.

Probably will never happen. Book on my car is $35k (2014 with 9000 miles) and Supra is like $50k.

A local friend of mine still has his. It's crazy built. He's put up over 1000hp on a dyno using a stock block. Has broke and replaced nearly everything due to the excess power. Finally has it dialed in and he barely drives it. Makes right about 800hp on pump gas.

What kind of dyno? Do you have the environmental variables? Any other cars? Just one reading...

Sorry - habit.

Seriously though, I still remember the car posters I had. Countach. 911 Turbo Slantnose. Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer (BB12), MB 300Sl, BMW M1, Damn, that was a long time ago. Oh yeah, and a Pantera (De Tomaso).

Yes yes.. I loved the Callaway - and the Lingenfelter (although that was clearly second tier). And the Testarossa was of course cool, although I def preferred the BB for some reason. I lived in Michigan then and got to see a lot of cars. Went to the Auto Show every year! Heh... amazing. Hell, I even liked the 928 (largely thanks to Rebecca DiMornay)

B.U.T.T. dyno. Most accurate there was. Room was chilled to 38 degrees and barometric pressure was simulated to be 100ft below sea level. One reading, from a first gear pull.

No, this dude is no joke when it comes to cars. He's been recognized in the supra community for breaking the 1k hp mark with a stock block. If i recall he was the first in the US to do so. Same car that was dusting 1000cc sport bikes on roll on races starting at 70mph. After breaking so much stuff he finally stopped taking it to the drag strip. He's an old school drag strip dude, used to spend all his time there when they were open for test and tune.

all the same posters. Pantera was my first vehicular crush.

My dad was living in Newport Beach around that time and a guy in his building had a Pantera. I used to hang out in the parking garage and just look at it (not for hours #notthezodiackiller). That car was crazy cool in its day.

928's were cool...the rich kids in HS had those, I kind of envied those cars, but after I did some mods on my RX7 I was cooler still.

Maybe you can still find Rebecca's car.
