Software Update

[It's Good]

My transmission went a little wonky over the weekend with intermittent jerking/missing under acceleration and searching etc.at low speed.The tech reprogramed per SIB #120224.Quick searched it and didn't see anything .Anyway,seems to have solved the problem.I'm now running 03/2024.47.SA said another update coming in a month or so.

03/2024.40 arrived in my i7 today via OTA. I have been getting OTA software for the last few years with BMW, but it is so absurd. Downloads, pauses, use WiFi, use Bluetooth, use the app, need to keep driving, stops. Now begins loading again.....TESLA please help BMW with OTA. LOL

This is my first software upgrade in the i7. Why does BMW make it such an awful user experience (as noted above)? Tesla is one click and done.

Only took 2 days and 3 drives for it to finish loading and installing...and btw, I notice zero difference and notes and info on the new version had no info or notes, LOL :-O #BayerischeTechnologie

It would be so much easier if you could just connect the car to your home WiFi and download and install it while you sleep and/or while the car sits quietly in the garage ala Tesla. Such a breeze! Warum, BMW, warum???

Genau! Warum BMW?

Tesla and even Jaguar (I mean Jaguar, LOL) and Land Rover allow you to connect to a home or work WiFi for OTA updates and even app functionality! How BMW still does not do this....mind boggling!

Last week our son got an OTA software update for his '24 M3, and afterwards he could not remote start or send a climate command. Post OTA, it unchecked his remote start ability and re-set several driver assistance systems. Luckily, I was able (and knew how) to fix it.

Post OTA this week for my '24 i7, my app would not connect or even update. All commands via the My BMW app would error message out and fail, and I could also not set a pre departure time. I unchecked all data services, did a hard iDrive reboot and then re-checked data services to "all". I then logged in and out of my BMW app, and the app re-connected.

Many people would not know how to do these post OTA software "fixes", especially people not on online forums.

BMW needs to greatly improve OTA!

hm, home wifi... i'm not sure how many people have their home wifi extend to their parking space. looking at how people live here i'd guess that over 60% don't have wifi there...

BUT: this does not make the question invalid: download it in the background via 4G/5G whenever there is a signal and then "hello, i'm ready to install" - done.

shouldn't be a problem at all to get updates!
