The rates for a Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 registered after April 2010 and before 1st April 2017 that emits 299g/km of CO2 are £1100 per annum, see......

https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...al_version.pdf

VED tax bands: April 2017 onwards:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-new...r-tax-overhaul

table
VED car tax bands for cars first registered from 2017 onwards
Emissions (g/km of CO2) First year rate Standard rate
0 £0 £0
1-50 £10 £140
51-75 £25
76-90 £100
91-100 £120
101-110 £140
111-130 £160
131-150 £200
151-170 £500
171-190 £800
191-225 £1,200
226-255 £1,700
Over 255 £2,000

Cars above £40,000 pay £310 annual supplement for five years
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
So a new Mustang 5.0 V8 (299g/km of CO2) is over 255 and will cost £2000 in its first year. After that £140 per annum. It does not get the £310 supplement because it costs less than £40,000.

I am not being picky or argumentative, I am just trying to get my head round what George Osborne is doing or trying to do and how different reporters are well...reporting it.
Read my post lol.

AFTER. 2017.

A car under £40k will only pay its first year and then £140 per year.

All cars over £40k will pay their first year, then £140 PLUS £310 for 5 years.

It's all laid down on UK Gov site.

Basically a 330d / 345d post 2017 will be £450 a year for 5 years...

This infers that you currently have a Mustang 5.0 V8 (because you said my road tax) and that it will drop to £140 per year. Plainly it will not.

You do understand what I am on about?

I am referring post April 2017 in regards to both purchase and associated tax.

Thus post April 2017, it would be MY car.

No wonder there is confusion. It was my car in a previous thread, now it is my car after April 2017.

Therefore the following is still correct!

So anyhow, that means you pay more VED for an I8 than a 5.0 V8 lol.

First year from this point, for the car in question right now is £1100. Next year, it will be £505. Whatever happens in 2017, it won't be more than £505. I assume it will still be £505, but I've not read the whole thing with regards to changes other than it won't go up for anyone with an existing vehicle.

As for what Osborne is doing...I don't think even he knows. This is a little too aggressive with regards to helping anyone or anything. Where exactly will this money go? No where it should. This, along with the new emissions zone they're doing is just flat out stupid. All it's doing is costing us more money and not fixing anything. Yeah...a tax on a car for emissions that's based on the price of the car...not the emissions it's emitting. This is almost as crazy as anything we come up with on the other side of the pond.

And yeah, if Brigand buys in 2017, or at least registers in 2017, then his numbers are absolutely correct.
The more you read the more it looks a mess. Osborne and previous chancellors tried to promote cleaner cars. Every manufacturer goes cleaner and the chancellor loses the money game and has to get more money somewhere along the line, so he bends the rules. In my view the AA site is very good at showing the different rates over the next 2 years (2014/2015 2015/2016. Here is the link....

http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice...g_roadtax.html

As stated, the car in question is £1100 this year and then goes down to £505 (VED Band M) the year before the 2017 change. I wonder how he managed that? Perhaps all his mates have cars with those poor emissions.

diesel is a great option for small vehicles, great mpg. For a luxury sedan, I think it's a mistake, just not as quiet or refined. 3-series and below or in suv. We don't need a million engine options or complicated ones (4 turbos??).

Well, just have a listen to the latest 2 litre diesel fitted to the latest 5 series (520d) released in Europe and the UK. It is nigh on impossible to tell whether it is petrol or diesel when the vehicle passes you as you are walking along the road.

Yes....I agree, 4 turbos appears to be too many.

Indeed, the 535d and 328d are wildly popular in the states...

I have seen exactly 1 in my life on the streets.

Saw a 328d wagon yesterday actually. Love wagons! Wish they made a 335d wagon I'd own one.

Several 335d cars here, and seen a few of the X series diesels, and now a growing number of 328d cars.

Sure, not as popular as petrol cars. But how much of that goes to marketing? BMW can only sell what they try to sell.
