I bought the audio book by Eddie Huang, listened to 5-10 mins of it and will be returning it. Couldn't stand the reading or the content...

^ he mixed in Chinese words along with the English writing and I found it annoying. Also, perhaps because I went through similar things (probably like most Asian Americans), but I found the story boring after 5-10 mins.

Don't do it. I thought i would like the book. Turns out I couldn't stand it. Why would I want to read (or listen) about the same things I went through...

Maybe that's why I don't find the show funny. It's not shocking to me. It's like, yeah my parents were cheap too etc.

I've started watching the show and I don't actually think it's that bad. This is probably because I had 0 expectations going in, but I enjoy it enough to continue watching.

I went to hang out with a friend and we watched a full episode... It was a bit over-the-top, but still worth a good chuckle (though still horrendously inaccurate with proving how over-the-top cheap you can go to be the favorite child and having the "lesser" one being called a stranger, or getting a "success perm").

True, I'm a child of the '90s and never heard of the "success perm". Plus my parents were cheap but they over exaggerate the frugality = success mentality in the show.

Just saw these episodes on DVR and thought the series is pretty amusing but then again Im also Asian and FOB that was decades ago !?!?

The oldest son kinda reminds me of myself when I was much younger !!! Hope it lasts and isnt cancelled.

With FOB being the only show representing Asians, I'm thinking of signing up for casting for being a contestant on the Bachelorette. Lol I don't think I have seen many Asians on those shows.
