Did anyone watch Fresh Off the Boat?

It's a new sitcom on ABC loosely based on the childhood of celeb chef Eddie Huang. I really, really wanted to like this show, as we so badly need more Asians on American tv, but I was disappointed.
The mom's accent was terrible and I get that it's supposed to be funny, but it wasn't even consistent. I can't do a Chinese accent to save my life, but I have friends who can and it's hilarious. And while that actress is pretty, she doesn't look like she's in the 90's era at all.
Also, and I know I'm being picky, but to me, actor Randall Park is so obviously Korean and not Taiwanese/ Chinese but I guess most non-Asians don't know the difference.
Oh and I liked the lunch scene, but let's be real, Asian moms would never pack us lunch in new brown paper bags every day! So wasteful! Haha!
The highlight of the show to me was the little boy who plays Eddie. He is so cute and a good little actor.
What I find fascinating is that Eddie Huang himself is disappointed with the show and has not been afraid to speak out about it!

I heard about it about a month ago and told my friends and co-workers about it since the preview looked funny. I looked into it and found that it was based on a real person. He also wrote a book called something like FOB: a memoir?

Anyhow, I watched the first episode and thought it was "meh." I wanted to give it another chance and watched the 2nd episode and thought it was okay. I feel like they were trying too hard to be funny.

The white jokes got old. If the whole series is going to be a bunch of white jokes, then I don't see it lasting very long.

I could probably direct a better show than FOB. I had high hopes for the show but I don't foresee it lasting long.

who knows... maybe it will get better, but the "this season on..." preview didn't look too promising though. Ahhh.. so much potential. Television needs a show like this, but its tough balancing act to stay on the fine line between white jokes and Margaret Cho.

Never seen the show, but from the trailer the mom just doesn't look the part. Like she doesn't look Asian enough or something, same for the father, if that makes any sense. Like I'm sitting here thinking, c'mon bitch I know you speak perfect english.

Personally although I can't tell if the father is Korean or Taiwanese I can tell that he doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the family, hell even the kid and the mother don't fit for me. Having a hard time believing this is a family and not just 3 random people.

PS: Apart from ordering Chinese takeout I have 0 Asian experience.

wow that put me to sleep last night. I agree with everyone about the casting and the terrible fake accents. I like the dad though maybe it's because i see Kim jong in him. I think by 1995 asians were pretty prevalent everywhere except the midwest. I just can't relate to this .
