I had a defective 3rd gear synchro in my 545 back in the day. Happened a few thousand miles out of warranty. The repair bill was $10k+. It was cheaper to sell the car at a loss and move on, which is what I did.

What the fuck? $10k? How is that possible? I just purchased the extended warranty with clutch coverage a couple weeks ago. Whew.

WTH happened in the other thread and leaked here?

Biorin , you should know that if you have any questions about the car, you should ask it here in OT. It's not safe everywhere else in BP. Rookie move.

The best $3000.00 that I ever spent was on the top level BMW warranty on the M6. Three months after I purchased it, the rod bearings went south necessitating an engine replacement. I paid $53.95 for a new engine rather than $45K.

Now about this breaking of certain things slowly...

I didn't think I could get my gay porn fix here, but it now that I know silvergray545 is very knowledgeable and Mr Tonka is very willing...

I'm debating the purchase of that 4th year of warranty. I think I have until 10k miles to decide.

Yes... the knife is not always the way to go...

BMW makes transmissions that are non-serviceable. If it breaks, you throw it away and put a new one in. I can't remember what the cost was on the new 545 trans but the M3 is like $6k. I'm sure was similar. Add in a new clutch, flywheel, labor and you've got a $10k bill.

Regarding the 545, they used the same trans from when they started producing them (2004) all the way up to March 2005, if I remember correctly. My 545 was a May or June 2005 build so it used the new updated trans. Zero in the junkyards across the country and the trans was to be special ordered from Germany. This was back in 2009 or 2010. Long time ago.

Now I own two M cars out of warranty. Balls of steel, right? Lol

If you really drive your car, extended warranties on BMW/Audi/Benz are a worth it.

If you're gonna dump the car in 4-years. Probably not so.

And remember. They too are negotiable.

Do the warranty.

As long as SG and MT aren't trying to do this in UncleWede 's van, we are ok.

I just did an involuntary cover-up when reading about the knife.

Classic rod bearing issue. I'm planning on doing mine preventatively next winter.

Smart. Do it regularly. My new engine only has 23K on it since I've been driving the crap out of the i8!

I saw something on TV about it a while back and the MT noob (shots fired ) says I'm very knowledgeable, all of a sudden.

Thank you for your concern though. I'm not living in a closet.

Hey, no offense taken at being called a noob by the guy who is clearly an expert with the stick, if you know what I mean...

Haha nice try but we all know the skill comes from the footwork. Since you think the perfection is in the stick, I'm sure you have a firm grasp on it by now.

I need to call Dave Walter and get an update. I know they are all built but not shipped. Mine has not been shipped.
