If it's awd then it falls near wrx and evo territory. Not sports car but sporty car like an m3 or m4. Still probably fun. Throw other hot hatches in there too. Etc.

Huh? The Golf R is sold in the USA.

But we're going off topic. Japanese sports cars are disappearing. Pretty sad.

Nah we have the golf r. We don't have the civic type r, and I highly doubt we will.

not according to car and driver

Estimated Arrival and Price
The Type R won’t be here for at least a year after the launch of the new standard Civic, maybe more. We’re betting on an early 2017 introduction as a 2018 model, with a price tag around $30,000.

Lol I'll believe it when I see it. The current si is 25000. Pretty much with nothing added. If the r came it be knocking on 40k for a civic. No market for that here.

You can get a first gen GTR for a little over 50k. I just got away with murder selling my 09 for 62k. Nismo 370s arent bad either.

Thats about it. I cant see myself ever getting another Japanese sports car with all the other options there are from the European brands. Even the new dodges are way better then the Japanese cars

Other than tiny Kei cars or other subcompact models, are there any Japanese sports cars in existence today that aren't sold in the US?

Interesting. What's available from Japan above that price that we don't get? Just curious.

In any case, I guess my point is that this thread could just be called "Are there any more Japanese sports cars, period?" and it would not change the resulting discussion.

Sports cars in general are tapering off in popularity. The surging appeal of the SUV has caused a shift in aspirations to high end SUVs. While the sports car is sort of the the pinnacle of the passenger car ethos, there is no real equivalent "sports truck" that is the pinnacle of a light truck. The reason is that a truck is ultimately built around utility. The ultimate car is light, fast, minimalist, and sexy. The ultimate truck is heavy duty, spacious, ostentatious and brawny.

Don't forget the civic type r is coming to the states. Supposedly ~300hp ~300ftlbs from a turbo 2.0 liter, AND might be awd. Looks like honda is stepping in where the EVO left off.
Nope, FWD only and slow as shit from 0-60, also not tuner friendly at all.

If you want AWD, get the Ford focus RS.

Corvette, viper, ford GT, etc. Mustang, camaro, pony cars. Hellcat, muscle car.
Contemporaries means other cars built the same year, not same class of car. Sadly, only BMW sports car is the I8 at the moment.
Sorry you wouldn't consider the e92 M3 to be a sports car?

Nope. No M cars outside of the M Roadster and M Coupes are sports car. Sporty cars, sports sedans, whatever, but not sports cars. The Z4 and i8 are both closer to being sports cars than an M3/4.

People don't because it's based off a base series car. I still disagree though.
