745i alternator leak?

I just joined this forum today, and maybe someone can help me. I did a search, but couldn't find anything. This didn't really surprise me though, because the BMW shop manager said that he had never seen this problem before, either. So, it must be pretty odd.


My car is a 2003 745i, and it has had a small oil leak the past few weeks, but just recently started getting worse. The faulty part is, according to the dealer, a leaking alternator mounting bracket gasket.


Has anyone had this happen before? I really don't want to take it back to the dealer, they wanted $1,400 to fix it because they said they had to remove pretty much the whole front-end of the car.


Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.
