RDS Information?

When listening to a radio station, how do I get RDS information, such as the name of the artist and the song?

It depends if the radio station you are listening to actually supports RDS. You can enable RDS in the sub menu from the radio (IIRC). I assume you are asking about analog radio stations?!?

Yeah, sorry I haven't been on here for a while...

Also, RDS does NOT transmit artist and song title like Sirius satellite radio does. The digital satellite transmission protocol includes a specific place for artist and song title. RDS does not. It is up to the station to send these information if they choose to do so. RDS is a very low speed signal @ 1187.5 bits/s on a 57kHz sub-carrier. If a station sends the artist and song title, it is usually part of the RT field in the data stream. If the station incorporated this feature properly, it should be synced with the actual song that is currently playing. Some stations only send their call sign others send artist and song title, others have news or other tidbits in-between the artist and song title. This is really up to the station.

Is it possible to have RDS info scroll at the upper right hand corner of the home screen, but continue to have the manual FM tuning list continue to list all stations numerically – and not in accord with their RDS station name / info?

I don't think so.

I find it incredibly irritating that when you list all stations and have RDS turned on, that the iDrive screen shows you what was last received via RDS as the station identifier. This is TOTALLY useless!!! I wish they would at least give us the option to have the stations frequency listed first and then they can display whatever the RDS information is/was. I think an even better choice would be if they would give us the option to label a station ourselves when we assign a station to a specific storage location (maybe up to 8 characters or at least the 4 character station identifier used in NA!).
