Two Observations

I have two observations so far with my new F01 750i. One may be a software glitch - the other an annoyance.

1. If the media device I am listening to is the ipod, and I shut off my car - returning later and start up, I get to hear my daughter's DVD, in this case Elmo, start playing. It seems to only happen if i am playing my ipod and restart the car. I suspect the default under the CD/Media idrive selection is the DVD player, versus the external device, the ipod. I simply hit "radio" or something else and it goes away. It would be nice if it just went back to the last device played - not go to the DVD player. This is minor IMHO - but it could be an easy software fix.

If I have the SAT radio on and restart, I get the SAT radio. All is good.

2. Rear coat hanger hook is not deep enough to hold a hanger. In my profession, I wear a suit or sport coat daily. I have been using the same hanger in the previous 2 7 series and currently in my M6. The fricken hanger is falling off the hook ALL the time - because the hook does not have the right depth.

I take the same hanger to my M5 and it is FINE. The hook is about 5 mm deeper and holds the hanger well. I think this is a design problem and I wish BMW will fix this..... Note that there is now another 2 coat hooks on the B pillar. These are not helpful - as the suit jacket would need to hang by it's label and it also gets tweaked....

Do you have a picture of the coat hanger in the car and/or the B-pillar ?

I don't have the problem you describe with DVD/iPod. I always get back to the same source as I was using before shutting the car down.

The B pillar hook is a PITA. If you use it, the item hanging effectively creates a blind spot when you glance over your shoulder to observe for traffic before pulling out or over taking.

So that is the REAL reason why BMW designed and build the Blind Spot Detection System into the 7 series !! Because of the B-Pillar hooks. Fastbuck figured it out

I never like to hang up either my coat or shirts or whatever on those hooks in the back since (as Fastbuck described above), this usually creates a blind spot.

all good points - but I don't like my coats wrinkled

A blind spot is also created by the side blinds or somebody in the back seat with a big head

Same here, although I usually just end up folding them over once and putting them on the back seat.

I try my best to avoid driving around people with REALLY big heads in my cars

The point I'm trying to make is that using the B pillar hook is 100 times worse that the hooks normally found on the rear grab handles.

I agree, the B pillar hook is worthless. you can't hang anything really from the angle of the hook and the limited space. also, it creates the well talked about blind spot.

I also noticed two more things (sorry to pepper you guys with the small tidbits):

1. Sport Mode is configurable. If you select "sport" you can either have it effect BOTH the suspension and engine, the engine only, or the suspension only. This is interesting - but I always select the default-effect both.

2. You can move the transmission into the "sport" mode. Similiar to the process with the older BMW automatics, simply flip the lever to the left and you get a "DS" mode. it holds the gears a bit longer and definitely feels more sporty. All we need now is a programmable M button.

Just an update...

2.000 miles and loving it. I still haven't seen another F01 or F02 in the Bay Area.....
Car is very fast and I'm not missing the M5 very much.. It's sits in the garage.

What a terrific combination of styling, technology, sportiness, luxury and refinement

I'm very happy with the car so far. It is miles ahead of my old E65 7 series.

Great job BMW!

Why not lay your suit out on the back seat or even in the trunk? (assuming yours is as empty as mine, the only thing that's ever been in my trunk in 2 years is one sweater I always have just in case.

Unless you're Tsuchiya and drive to work at a 60 degree angle, I think your suit will be fine.

I hope it gets loaded on the boat today!

Thanks for asking

I'm just north of Toronto.

The boats dock in Halifax / Nova Scotia (Link to Google Map of Halifax/NS, you can also see Toronto just on the left edge of the Map). In Halifax the cars get transferred onto trains and then transported to a rail yard just north of Toronto, about 50km+ from where I live at which point they get put onto trucks...

I believe that my car will most likely be on a Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics boat:

http://www.2wglobal.com/www/wep/

Here is the route that Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics boats take:

Name: eu-na.gif
Views: 600
Size: 43.2 KB

You can also get the latest route schedules from their website:

http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppSche...pe=generatePDF

And you can track your car to see on what vessel your car is:

https://att.2wglobal.com/gstattweb/o...uickSearchPage

You simply enter your VIN into the Cargo ID field (or you can do a partial VIN number search by adding a wild card % at the end e.g. WBAKA%).

spot m5- since you have played around with he rear dvd system do you know whether you can play a dvd in the back and still listen to music in the front; for me it defaults to the dvd in the front even when i am using the rear player. another observation i noticed yesterday is that bmw made a late decision about the ignition where the key is supposed to be inserted behind the steering wheel...on my vehicle there is a picture i presume indicating where the key could be inserted but no key hole...anyone else notice this

riazah

you can play a dvd in the rear and listen to music only if the rear passengers are using their wireless headsets.
there is no keyhole. if your key battery is low or dead, just put the key up the the symbol where the key hole would have been. it will charge the key or get enough data from the key to start it.
