Sky lounge Rear glass gasket

Hi All,

First post with a favor to ask. To any fellow G11/G12 owners with the sky lounge panoramic moon roof: have you noticed any void in the conjoining seal of the glass (circled in 1st picture)? The other side of the panels is attached without void (as I would expect).

I only noticed this defect this morning with the roof closed in incidental light. I never spent much time looking at those seals in detail during the wash despite being a neurotic otherwise. I have noticed some extremely faint whistling at higher speeds since June that my dealership mechanic claimed was the rear AC I heard. I know my baby and that was not it! They reviewed these photos and said they could be normal/cosmetic or possibly an issue depending on leakage tests.

It has been very hot and dry on the east coast; my M760 is garage kept but not at the office. I have not noticed any incidental leaks.

I will do a water leak test and compressed air test this weekend but my gut is telling me this seal should be replaced.

My apologies for the long windedness. [IMG][/IMG]

Thank you. I used a three inch Rupes pad along this portion of the roof a few months back and do not remember this gap.

I had the exact same thing on my '21 750i after a sunroof seal replacement.Got the car back and noticed a whistling noise on passenger side near sunroof.Examined it and found a gap just like yours.I put a piece of painter's tape over it and the noise disappeared.Called SA and returned car for replacement of seal with no gap.Problem solved.Think the gasket might be a trimmable piece and it was cut to short. You might try the tape to verify.

Thanks guys for your help; I did confirm the whistling with the tape test and additionally small amounts of water can enter the trough but it is of little consequence as it drains. I all have this seal replaced by the dealer ASAP.

This forum is great; I hope to spend more time in here.

Cheers,

Ken
