Back in the Dark Ages (1970-1971) I had a Honda CL350 Scrambler. Which was not at all suitable for any off-road work, I found out. But then again, I didn't have knobby tires. I did, however, have a few burns from the side pipes.

The world’s first internal combustion motorcycle was developed by Daimler in 1885. It was called the Reitwagen (riding car) and reached 7 mph (12 km/h).

I don't know quite what to make of this 1980 Gold Wing, so I'll just park it here.

I suspect that (1) it is pretty awful, but (2) would be totally awesome to go to prom in.

Around November of 1971, I saw a row of brand-new Kawasaki motorcycles parked at the tiny Navy Exchange (retail store) at the Naval Communications Station San Miguel, Philippines, where I was stationed. I don't remember having the specific thought before that about *needing* a motorcycle, and -- truth be told -- I would probably have preferred a more sane mid-displacement Honda or other 4-stroke. But it was Kawasaki or nothing.

These bikes had price tags on them. The '72 Kawasaki H-1B 500 Mach III was priced at $864 out the door. I forget the price of the H-2 750 but suspect it was a bit over $1,000. Fortunately, I had the prudence to avoid the white-hot fire-breathing 750 and concentrated on the fire-breathing 500. Most of my funds were back in the States and so I did not have $864 cash. I borrowed a few hundred from one of my buddies (to be paid back within a couple of weeks) and I was on the road!

The Kawasaki triples were crazy fast -- the 750 crazier still, no doubt -- so I drove fast. My memory is that they weren't much good for anything other than rapid acceleration, which is what I suspected going in and why I would've preferred another brand. But so be it.

I drove the 500 drama-free (no tickets, no accidents) and about a year later shipped it to my new duty station in Okinawa, Japan. I *almost* amassed a perfect drama-free record with the bike, but one day after a light sprinkle, I was turning into the base right in front of the MP at slow speed when the slick pavement got me and I slid to a painful (road rash) stop right in front of the MP. The bike was not damaged, but I took a trip to the medical clinic. Ouch!

Then in early 1974 I got out of the Navy after four years and shipped the 500 back to the USA where my brother ended up buying it.

All my other motorcycles were for sane people; that Kawasaki was the only "bad boy" of the bunch.

Ahh yes,the good ole' H2 750 aka, The Widowmaker. A bit before my time, but I did have the opportunity to ride a friends restored '75 H2 back in the 2000's.

My recollection was: exciting powerband, wallowing frame at anything over 75mph,horrendous brakes, comfy seating position, amazing sound, lackluster suspension&handled like dog crap. But overall was a blast.

Also had the chance to put 40-50miles on the object of my teenage desire: original, unrestored 1982 Kawi Eddie Lawson Replica owned by the same friend the same day I rode the H2.

I remember when I was 13-14yrs old a female bodybuilder at the gym purchased a brand new ELR and took me for a ride down the street. That was total overload for my mind back then.

Ah,the memories...thanks for posting that Llarry

Seeing some of these old bikes reminds me of my very first bike, a Yamaha RD250LC.

I also modified mine with the heads swapped over with 350 heads to give more power whilst still learner legal here in Australia where we had a cap on 250cc whilst "learning". I also fitted a lower only engine cowl fairing and Laverda jota drop bars to give it a real race feel. God I loved that bike . Shame I don't have any pictures from back then.

Bimota Tesi 1D 904, of which there were only 20 made from 1991 to 1992. It uses a 904 cc Ducati engine, derived from the Ducati 851 Desmoquattro.

This particular example only has 800km and was put on Bring a Trailer. The top bid was $21000 but didn't meet the reserve. What a beauty!
