BMW is still superior in the SUV department, save for the GLS because BMW doesn't have an offering in that segment.

And I'd say the new 5er is a tad better than the new E-class. Otherwise yes Mercs win head to head. They were absolute shyt during their Chrysler days and have come back hard with a vengeance. Unlike BMW, Mercedes changes their exterior and interior design language with every generation. This keeps their lineup fresh and compelling, just as Bangle did with BMW.

Unfortunately, Munich has made a habit of playing it safe. Save for lack of tech features, my E90 sh*ts all over the F30 in EVERY way. Far more fun to drive, superior interior materials, classic looks, etc. Sit in an F30 and it doesn't feel much different from the E90! It's basically a refresh of an 11 yr old interior.

The entry level MB Suv is the GLA. The previous entry level MB suv was the GLK (now called the GLC). The ML hasnt been "entry level" since the arrival of the GLK in 2008. The GLE is literally a ML LCI.

Yes. But took the crown for global sales.
BMW Group remains world’s Number One premium automotive company

Seventh consecutive year of record sales
Global sales total 2,463,526: up 4.1%
Record sales for BMW, MINI, BMW Motorrad
New all-time highs for both BMW i and BMW M

Guess that all depends on how you define Premium, as the number you are reporting is almost 20% higher THAN ALL THE BMWs sold Globally in 2017.

Seems you are stuffing the numbers with 364,000 Minis and the additional Rolls numbers (Is Mini really a Premium brand).

MB outsold BMW Globally by almost 20%....rank 10 and 12. Mini #46.

The X-Klasse (pick up) and V-Klasse ( A van with Windows) are actually commercial vehicles although they are listed as passenger cars.

Mercedes-Benz also include Smart as well as Maybach even though it's just a fancy trim specification like BMW Individual.

Just as BMW Group count MINI and Rolls-Royce which again both have another record year. In 2018 the new Phantom went on sale which the very first customer in the U.K. Was one of the very first customers who bought one of the first models of the new BMW era Phantom in 2004.

And we have not even scratched the surface yet The new X3 arrived at the tail end of the end year to make a minimal impact. But the actual X3 is now sold out for six months.

The China built and marketed 1er has impacted on the Chinese market fulfilling its demographic for the younger customer.

The 5er took mere months to become the best selling car in the executive segment.

BMW's Electrified models surpassed 100,000 units and another record
For BMW M.

Global sales driven by the more recent models such as the 1er,4er,5er,7er and the all conquering X models. More importantly the X line is in for further additions and all new models. Such as the X2 and X7. And all new models for the X2 and X5.

From spring of 2018 we will see further ideas in conceptual form to headline and expand under the Bayerische Motoren Werke branding as well as welcoming back the all-new BMW 8er Coupe.

With all this model overlapping no wonder BMW can't produce "The Ultimate Driving Machine" anymore.......Phil

Again, you are trying to obfuscate the real numbers.

BMW to MB only, MB won in Global sales, as shown in the link I posted.

No Maybach, no Smart, no Trucks.

No Minis, no Rolls, no Motorcycles.

CARS.

And as can be seen from the numbers you claim and the link I posted, you included EVERYTHING in your inflated numbers for BMW in post 26.

100% agree ... I can’t speak to the MB product but certainly believe BMW has stopped innovating. The new F90 M5 is hardly innovative or exciting and is basically a refresh of the F10 M5 w/ AWD. Like you said, waiting a year to release Competition Packages is also ridiculous when they could easily do it from the get go. Hopefully, at some point they’ll return to the roots of what made BMW (& ///M) special.

The Ultimate Driving Machine only exists in English Speaking markets like The UK,Australia,New Zealand and the USA.

The global marketing term for BMW is "Sheer Driving Pleasure" or "Freude Am Fahren"

So what you're saying is we didn't get the memo that BMW was changing gears and they are about "Driving Pleasure". Well now I can't say they have changed directions......they're right on course. "Sheer Driving Pleasure" is reserved for commuters.......not driving enthusiasts. And today's BMW line up checks those boxes................Phil

BMW doesn't care about the US market anymore and is focusing on China. They stopped offering support for leases in the US and their sales will continue to slide until that changes.

Sheesh. Your defense of BMW's mediocrity and race to the bottom is mind-numbing.

You have a forum of enthusiasts providing crystal clear feedback about the brand having completely lost its direction.

Sounds exactly like Detroit in the 70s. Destiny has a habit of catching-up.
