This thread has been pure enjoyment to me. I am currently 20 years old, living near Chicago and sort of in the same situation as TheAxiom . I personally work at a Geek Squad (LOLOLOL) to help pay for school, which I am currently a Jr and mods for my car. I'm completely miserable there... The managers are beyond ruthless towards myself because they all think I am a "rich kid", because I currently drive an e92 M3. The money was earned through multiple different incomes since freshman year of high school. I just like cars... lol. I hope you find something OP, because I feel for you 100%. Seeing the amount of support in this thread was awesome, so cheers to everyone in here.

I've been laid off once when I was younger, but recently have changed jobs twice on my own choice. Find a good recruiter that you like working with. They will bring you the jobs instead of you having to hunt through craigs, indeed, etc. I used the same recruiter both times. They are very motivated as they get a nice cut when they place you somewhere. Best of luck

Staying up late tonight to work on my resume, send out some applications, and do some research on other things. I've been sick, and keep passing out early.

1 upside...7hr of PTO every 2 weeks, now if I just had time to use...

Thanks everyone fot the support and advice, gives me a lot to think about. I'm (of course) on my phone, so I can't dole out the 'appreciate' button like I normally would. And the full browser is just too annoying to use.

Hey, we should link up! The first virus I removed was installed from DOS3.1 3.5" installation disks that didn't even have a write hole punched in the corner.

I know of someone in the Tampa area. Let me see if she knows of anything. What is it that you do again? I know you already mentioned it but I'm just too lazy now to look

Work for a healthcare company doing boring work (that originally didn't sign on for) but I came from sales previously, and can do anything pretty much.

I even took a practice LSAT class and scored well enough that the instructor thought I showed some real potential. Anyhow, my biggest concern is school - when you're wasting around watching your Ex graduate, and you realize you wrote her papers for class....it puts things into perspective.

It literally burns me with rage.
Not to keep beating the same drum, but...

Your logic and reasoning skills are far more desirable as an "engineer" than any formal or technical training.(I use the word "engineer" loosley, as it's a term that's been whored to the point of being near meaningless...) If you really are strong with logic and reasoning, look into industrial programming. CNC, Robots, PLC - any of these require logical/reasoning mindsets, otherwise, you're just learning a new "language," but you need the logical/reasoning in order to have a good understanding of what's going on. I'll shut up about manufacturing, but just look into it if you're even remotely interested. Oh, you've done sales too? - Again, another skill set that makes you more desirable, and opens up more doors and possibilities.

Best way to find a job? Networking. And I mean the ole' fashioned way. As I type this, I'm sitting at breakfast in a hotel restaurant, about to go to a local manufacturing related trade show. I hear some guys at the table beside me talking about a seminar session at the show, and kindly ask them "what time is that session?" We strike up a light conversation, find out that we're from the same town, and then their next question, all in the same breath, is, "Oh Yeah? You're a Machinist? When can you start...?" God's honest truth...

(Shameless plug: Remember me talking about manufacturing jobs being in demand...?)

Anyway, my point is, the best way to get a job, is to get out there and talk to real people, face to face. Sure linkedin and facebook and all that silly internet stuff has some merit, but nothing like talking and meeting a real person...

I just had a manager IM me in a meeting to scold me. They stated something, a coworkers missed it, and I repeated it back.

'I saw you answered a question'

Me 'Yes, it was already stated and I repeated the answer'

Her 'well let them answer it'

While our side conversation is happening, there are 3 others doing the same thing. I get the idea of it, but I'm positive she said nothing to them, as this continued throught the meeting.

Over it already. Recovering from a small cold and little rest, but my mind is already working ovetime.

My co. is looking for an expert in DOS 6.3. I like you. If you are as good as you say you are in DOS 3.0, we will teach you what you need to know. It will not be easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is. IM me if interested.

Hey, I even do virus removal in DOS. Can I get a job? Some of my best work was writing autoexec.bat scripts to utilize flip-vga.com to trick friends to stay off the pron sites thinking they got the virus there, AFTER drinking a few pitchers at lunch.
