So, I'm stuck in my driveway

Got the car back to ultra cold temps here in ND yesterday, had some snow on it this am, in my heated garage over the lunch hour which melted the snow, then after work I can't get my door to latch shut! +8 degrees, something was stuck, obviously. So, I'm only a few miles from home, I held the door shut while driving home.

In the sloped driveway, waiting for garage to open, the car goes into park, says that I need to close the door, which I can't do. Will not go into drive or reverse! Finally, it must have warmed enough from the inside out to latch shut, and everything worked out.

Dealer hadn't heard of that before, I'm sure hoping this was a one-time-glitch!

Tomorrow is a high of +11, so maybe I'll find out.

I've heard that some people had to have a cable or something replaced in the door that has something to do with the soft close mechanism. Don't know much about this issue but someone had asked me about this before and he told me that the dealer ship had to replace some sort of wire or cable...

My F01 has a recall for a door handle cable to be replaced. I don't have the soft close feature.

I'm hoping it was a one time thing. I have had the car 1 week today, they said the only campaign out on it was a software update, so if there's a cable problem, its not a BMW service bulletin on my car at least.

I don't think it was a recall or replacement well at least as far as I know it wasn't a bulletin, it was just something that had happened to someone that had messaged me about it and he told me that they had to replace a cable in the door. That's all I know.

Happened again this morning. -2 degrees F. Turning the car off, then on while holding it shut seems to help.

And again last night. 750's taking a trip on a flatbed to the dealer. I need a car that has a door that will stay shut.

I assume you have the soft close feature?!?

Did you hear the motor inside the door trying to close the door once you 'almost' closed the door?

Please let us know what the dealership found out what caused this problem and how they fixed it!

Yes, soft close, yes the motor tried to do something. They should be working on it now........

Sad sight to see a week old 750 heading off on a flatbed!

Door cable they say.........that attaches to the "actuator". Frustrating, in that there's a bulletin out on it, and I asked the dealer to be sure to check every possible bulletin before I got the car due to the distance to the dealer!

As i stated earlier in the thread, that bulletin affects my car too. I don't have soft close so it must just be the handle mechanism.

The weather was just to dam cold. What happens is if you look at where the door latches onto when closing the door it was frozen/stuck. Next time with your finger lift it up and down but put the latch back to its position where it can close and grasp onto latch. This may be confusing to say but all you need to remember is lift it up and down and it will close.

Tried that. Its been a few weeks now and the cable "fix" fixed the problem.

Has BMW done away with this for 2012? I have a 2012 for the night and it doesn't seem to do this! I wonder if our 2009/10/11's can be reprogramed to do away with same!

@dbs600: do away with what? the soft close mechanism?

Maybe the demo car you have doesn't have the soft close option?!?

Sorry about that! Do away with the programing that throws the car into park when trying to move / accelerate from stop / standstill when the driver's door is open.
