Pleased to hear it is official that will definitely make the game more popular down here, which I suppose is what it is all about.

I did quite like most of SF when I was there last year, just can't support their NFL and MLB teams

I think he will be the starting punt returned and play on a lot of special teams (kickoff and punt coverage)

Yeah, you're probably right. Can't see him getting much time, if any, at RB but you never know.

The punt returning could be electric. The RB situation is more about health. Carlos Hyde is a potential stud and Reggie Bush gives the pass catching out of the backfield. Haynes will play there in mop up duty or due to injury. It's always best to remember that the most important job a RB has is pass protection.

Gore was the best in the league and one of the main reasons the coaches never wanted him off the field. Haynes has not seen any exotic blitz packages in a game before. The coaches won't want to risk Kaepernick's health just to see what Hayne can do.

If Hayne gets in a RB w/o any other RB injuries, he will be on a run play or a quick pass play/screen. He also won't stay on the field for many consecutive plays.

This a great opportunity for him this year since the 9ers are not very good as result of what has happened in the off season. But he does need to stop running straight up and bring down his shoulders or he is going to be punished.

i don't know, i think there's a really good chance Hayne gets a lot of carries through out the season. The problem I've seen with Hyde is he has zero patience. He''s constantly running into his blockers at full speed. I think he's going to be on a short leach, if he doesn't quickly show he can be patient & run with his blocking as the play develops, then i'm sure Hayne is going to be given plenty of shots. Hayne seems like he's more elusive in open space as well. At this point, only time will tell.....

No offense to Hayne, but it's a little sad that niner fans are clinging to him as a reason to watch this upcoming season.

I don't think it will be a train wreck, as Somme are predicting, but I'm guessing we are looking at 7-8 wins.

Lies, Fosters is Australian for Beer.

Hayne looks pretty solid, and after watching his highlights, hes gonna make the SC Top 10 a couple times this season for leveling a defender.

However, like was mentioned, he runs a little too upright and is going to take some unnecessary big hits until he learns to get lower. He also seems to have that running style that I wonder about when I watch Rugby. Where they almost arent ever at a full speed sprint, but seems like a fast jog until they see where they want to go and then pick up speed. Not saying it is bad, but it is a style of running you dont see everyday in the nfl. I definitely see punt returner and maybe short yardage back use though.

"Our" man has made the starting line up for today's game, great news for him.

I hope he gets a good amount of game time, not so sure about that, and he does well!

Go my new second team

I can tell you there are a lot of Aussies getting ready to watch their first ever NFL game due to Hayne and the Niners. 10:15am Tuesday morning kickoff and I am planning a trip to my local pub to watch the game.

I had never heard of him before all this NFL stuff.
Very few people watch Rugby League on the West Coast, we don't even have a team in the national competition.

I'm a Rugby Union fan, but AFL is by far the biggest sport over here.

Got it. A big time regional sport. Sort of like lacrosse here in the US (traditionally a big Northeast sport).

Technically he has made the active game day roster only at this point. He will probably be the starting punt returned and play other special teams such as punt coverage. Wouldn't go so far as say starter. Normally that is reserved to offense and defense.

Still a HUGE accomplishment and Australia should be proud.

Not quite, League is the most popular sport in the most populous state (NSW which is where Sydney is).
But AFL is the most popular nation wide.

Where I come from we would call that making the starting line up, that is, he is in the group of players who could get called on to take the field during the game.

Don't assume all us down in the Antipodeans don't know the game, I for one, have been following to since the mid 70's.

Rugby League is played in NSW and Queensland. the rest of the country gives not one fuck about the game. Thugs game supported by gambling houses (leagues clubs) who offer cheap food and drink to punters who join. Rugby League would be lucky to get 20,000 spectators to a game.
