Fuel Gauge / Level Sensor Failure

Filled up on fuel last night and the gauge showed full.

Started the car this morning and saw a meager ¼ tank.

Car was calling for fuel by end of day, but took only $10 worth.

Interestingly, the gauge had been going down throughout the day, but after fill-up it didn’t move from empty.

I now must keep track of my miles and fill up every 200 miles or so, to be safe.

Any way this may resolve itself or anything minor I can do in lieu of dealer visit?

Thanks. :|

It's probably the transducer which will be inside the tank, so it's either a shop visit or carry on doing brim to brim refuels and reset your trip counter every time.

Thanks! Dealer has since replaced the whole fuel tank to the tune of $2,300, subject to my $250 extended warranty deductible. Fixed, for now.

Glad you got it fixed. Goes to show that extended wattanty, albeit not very cheap, is absolutely essential.
I recently had a window motor and headlamp unit replaced which would have cost at least £750. Fortunately both were done at the same time for a single excess payment of £250.
