I'd take a S over a 7
I'd take the new E over the 5 as well. But I'll never take a C over a 3.

I don't like the Volvo XC90'ish nose that all new BMWs got, guess the 3 will be next. But from the side and rear, the 7 looks good. Interesting, a coworker has the S550, new, and it's totally lit up with LED's in the day, too many if you ask me...

The S is better looking I think and the E sedan is just beautiful......I agree with a 3 over a C unless you can get the C63 AMG...that car is badass..

+1 we looked at the 7 and S...and there was absolutely no comparison.
The S is pure luxury...the 7 was a technically competent ride, little body lean etc...but does not engage the driver, and the interior would make someone want to slit their wrist; it might even be worse than the 3 series! (I joke, but you get the point). It also looks kinda bland and sedate in person. S was pure luxury -- fit for a king. Those seats! Those seats! If you want comfort, S is THE car. IMO. And while the current S is ...kinda weird looking, have you seen the NEW CLS? The next S is going to be ballin!!! |

I drove an S550 and a 750 back to back and for me there was no comparison, the 7 was just the better car. I liked the S from an outside look point of view but that's where it ended. The interior quality of some of the materials was just sub par for a car of this class (e.g. the temp controls in the S class are cheap looking and when you pushed one up the one next to it would move a little, the COMMAND control knob with it's ridiculous little keypad cover thingy, etc...). The seats in the S were nice but I liked the once of the 7 series with the individual leather better. Also, the 7 series twin turbo charged engine just had a lot more of the 'kick-in-the-pants feeling' to offer than the naturally aspired V8 of the S. The low end torque of the 7 series V8 engine is just AWESOME.
Anyway, that's just my opinion and everyone has different points of view and feelings about this subject

+7 on the (7) although as far as the S Class goes - IMHO the S63 is the S to have - and thats from a visceral/performance stand point, the others not so much.

Notice how everyone that says the S-Class is better than the 7 Series drives a 3 series! I went from a 3 to a 7, and I made that decision after driving both the S-Class and the 7... BMW makes a better quality product then Mercedes hands down, and BMW stands behind their cars with their warranty!

I think that if you drove the cars long term, the 7 comes out on top. It's a better value, performance, more options and features. The S looks better, more aggressive stance, and it is more luxurious. I took my dad to test drive an S and the MB dealer looked at the camera in the front fender and he told me the cap on the park distance control is missing. I informed him that it was a camera and he was blown away. He also saw that there is more legroom in the back of the 7 and when he heard that the maintenance was included, I think he was ready to buy a 7.

S is a nice car and drives decent. a bit too floaty for me. 7 is a beautiful handling, looking and driving machine. My only complaint is the I wish the Nav system was like the S
