I say depends on how you use them. Get a weekend exotic, put 3k miles a year on it and compare your overall costs after 5 years to the 2016 Cayman S. How much will the new Cayman S depreciate in 5 years?

How expensive will maintenance be per year if it takes 5 years to put 15k miles on the car?

Is there any "supercar" you could DD?

I think the GT3 RS is probably the highest end car one could reliably DD. Disagree?

No one else is confused as to why you are posting in an M3 forum about switching from a Cayman to a Lambo?

You could easily DD a 458 or MP4-12c but no so much in a Gallardo. The Huracan should change that though but I haven't tried one yet.

Spend 100K+ on a older Gallardo it will be worth relatively the same in 3 years as long as you don't put tons of miles on it.

Spend 100K on a brand new Z06 or 911 it will depreciate 30-40k in 3 years. Unless you get a GT3

Would be a obvious decision for me. The Lamborghini would also be a lot more special. I see C7 vettes every day and 911s frequently

Cayman GT4 = cooler than most exotics.

and honestly if I had exotics money to spend; if be shopping 911 GT3s all day long.....have no fascination with Ferraris or Lambos....

Agree completely if driving it as a second car, limiting the miles. If plan was to daily drive it my choice is not exotic. I also would only buy the C7 or 911 used for this reason.

For some reason people are afraid of the maintenance/repairs of one of these cars but have no issue with going out and buying a new car that will have a guaranteed giant depreciation hit. $30k-$40k will buy a lot of maintenance/repair and how much maintenance/repair will really be expected over 15k miles?

Add up a clutch, belt/chain replacement, full tune up, oil change, trans./brake/diff fluid, brakes, etc., which would mean virtually nothing had been done to the car and it needed everything and it would still leave a lot of money left over.

Same exact thought when people want to get rid of their BMW because the warranty is about to end because they are afraid of a possible repair and would prefer to take a guaranteed big depreciation hit on the new car.

It depends on what you mean by tons of miles... if you put say 10k miles over 3 years, I am pretty sure the car would depreciate significantly, given many of such cars have <10k miles even after many years... Also need to think about maintenance and insurance... since the car is out of warranty, fixing anything will be really expensive. Insurance is going to be a BIG one there as well.

Also there may be a lot of unwanted attention...

Wouldn't the maintenance cost on the Gallardo most likely cancel out the depreciation of the Corvette or 911?

GT4 is a step up from my CS, but not so radically different that I think it's worth making the move, plus I don't like the rear wing and side scoops so there's the headache of getting them removed...

cost wise making the move to a Gallardo will cost me more since I will have to get a second car and pay for parking, insurance and eat the depreciation (even if minimal) on the second car

what I struggle with is whether it would be worth it...

You're not going to find a 430 manual for under $150K USD. All gated Ferrari and Lambo have shot through the roof in the past year or so. Perhaps you could find a good 360.

Anything gated is going to command a steep premium. And the CAD/USD conversion will hurt you as well.

Have you considered a 355?

Not unless you take the car to a dealer and pay Lambo/Ferrari tax. Most gallardo parts are Audi R8 parts so it wouldn't be that bad. I've spent some time reading about them on the lambo forums and the seem to be pretty reliable as well.

If paying for the car note doesn't exceed 15% of your net income, and you can comfortably spend $10k a year on maintenance and repairs you should be fine. If not than a high maintenance car isn't for you(it's not for me either lol).

Cayman S, no question.

the C7, like all Corvettes, is an unimaginative piece of muscle----looks hideous and lacks subtlety.

And your 1M is any different? Besides being slower than the C7 of course...

I also know exactly what you mean. I have an M4 now but I miss my Cayman S. There is just something about that car, it has soul, the handling, the feel of a stick shift mid engine car. I probably will end up going back to a Cayman S in the future.
