1) Is that true?
2) Is it worth the significantly higher price than the 8500 for that feature?
Go with the 9500ix. Keep an eye on Amazon, they have had it listed on and off for $379.
Why not the 9500ic? It has a laser jammer.

You can combine Laser Interceptor with the V1.

funny i've been using the same escort passport 8500 x50 red display for several years without issue. i've found no reason to upgrade at all. i'm not into jammers because they make me feel like you're asking for trouble.

i feel like a cop would pull you over out of spite if they kept getting errors like that. i think you would have a bad time after that.

+1. This, or a V1 with Laser Interceptor, is the better route than the 9500ci. The 9500ci has the Escort laser heads which were not good at all based on the research I did a year ago when I was trying to make this decision. The Bel STiR is (arguably) the best radar unit and the Laser Interceptor is (arguably) the best laser jammer. Although the video above might argue Escort has better laser heads now (didn't watch the entire video).

On another note: With respect to the cop getting pissed and pulling you over when you make his laser gun error out...the system has an "off" button you press when you have slowed your speed so the cop can get a real reading so you are less likely to be pulled over because you errored out his laser gun.

That's the exact combo I use.
V1 is good, yes, chatty, but I've had it for so long that I mostly don't hear anything but Ka bands.
And the fact that it's bland and boring looking helps, I have it hardwired and don't need to hide it since it looks like some sort of dash cam sensor. Less thief attention.

I also turned to traffic mode where it's better a ignoring X and K band but still picks up the strong signals

I currently use the 9500ci its a pretty a amazing unit, I have yet to get a ticket using it. To save on cost I installed it myself in a few hours. (I got an amazing deal on it through work to sweeten the deal but after using it, it is completely worth the price!) The passport max 2 is another unit I enjoy using in my other vehicle, and for the price you cant beat it, plus the V1 looks tacky in my opinion.

Have you tried Waze? Makes detectors obsolete in urban areas...
