@Alfisti, stop. You don't even like this car, it's not Roadmaster sized and it's also never $50k. I've had two friends buy Mk7's for just over $35k. There are incentives on them, not markups.

Aren't you always telling people that a V60 is tiny, and so was the E84? Just surprised to see you like the Golf, although it is a great car and should be readily available below MSRP.

It's 50K.

40K, add a few options, taxes, delivery, dealer fees, other random charges ... 50K.

The whole exchange thing is a bit misleading too as salaries are pretty much the same before you even take exchange into account so it's very expensive here.

As family cars yes, they are too small and that was the context. Well the V60 is big enough but the boot could be bigger.

As a somewhat practical chuckable fun car the Golf R is superb from the small amount of time i had in it.

Now we have the X3 I am considering a Golf R or said X1 (35i) as a fun car for myself.

You must be dealing with a pimp my ride VW shop because I went through the build configuratore for alberta and the only option was the tech pkg which was 2k.....add in taxes/shipping/etc and its still only 44300 canadian.......

I have no idea where you're coming up with 50k for a bloody VW R

Having owned the X1 35i and put plenty of time in the Golf R, both Mk6 and Mk7, there's a lot to be said for similar power and 700ish fewer pounds. And of course the R is available with a full set of pedals.

That math doesn't make sense, GST alone is 13% so even on base it's $45K before delivery, charges and fees which you also pay taxes on.

In typical north AMerican fashion, VW does it's best to hide the actual price one pays. I will never, ever understand this cockamamie system you guys use, in Australia the price is the fucking price is the fucking price.

So what happened here is you ran through the build site and came out with $44K including taxes, not you fault but click on the taxes tab and it ONLY includes additional taxes, so eco fees etc etc.

The true cost for a base Golf R with either (not both) DSG or Tech package is
$44K plus 13% in Ontario = $49, 720.

Otherwise known as 50K.

I would tune the 35i, not sure if the R is already highly strung but the 3T makes easy power.

To prove my point, mildly used 2016's are going for $47K after tax.

No it does not include tax. You're not paying attention, the TAX they list is just eco fee, aircon tax etc not the GST. Click on the word TAX in blue for details.

If you cant get the car for what the VW site configurator indicates then dont buy the car........its plain and simple

And VW advertises it for under 45k including delivery......if you cant negotiate a better price than that then........

You might get it $1k off at best, Toronto dealers don't budge much.

A loaded X1 also drifts into this price point BTW. When we bought our used X3 I asked the sales guy to do me a lease price out just to check numbers, a 35i X3 with nav, roof and parking sensors is well over $800 month. You'll nudge $900 TBH.
