A little more sneaky peekin' ... from start to finish, with test-mule unobtanium in bold:

Honda/Acura NSX
718 Boxster
next-gen 911 Cabrio (2 exhaust outlets; probably a Carrera)
718 Cayman S
718 Spyder (yes, a Spyder. It's coming.)
Current-gen 911 Targa 4 GTS
Next-gen 911 coupe (4 exhaust outlets; could be a Turbo)
718 Cayman GT4
981 Cayman GT4

Ah, you mean like the 911 RSR...

Given the way the panamera has turned out I dont see any reason to doubt that this is likely the new 4S ....I personally like it but I am not sure I will be replacing my 991.1 C4S

Ok, I know fat-shaming is not a nice thing to do... but, damn, that thing looks like a chub! Hopefully the real thing is better.

Probably to meet safety standards.

There are smaller cars in the US than ever before, so I'd say that is completely false.

I'd say it's generally because it's what people want. Not only is our market getting fatter, but people want more space, they want a bigger car that is faster. Guys want the biggest truck so they can feel badass. Ladies want a high SUV to see above all the cars. It's all constantly pushed towards "bigger".

With that said, I think there are other things going on:

The 911 has to keep getting significantly wider to stay relevant with GT350Rs, SS and ZL1-1LEs, Giulias coming in from one side, then entry-level Ferrari and McLarens on the other. Tires keep getting wider. It takes ever-increasing amounts of wizardry to keep the rear-engine chassis competing against these other cars where the engine is either in back of the front axle, or in front of the rear axle. When you exhaust the stuff like active-swaybars, 4-wheel steering, and so on, you still end up with having to make the car wider as these technologies eventually get used by the other manufacturers. They make terrific cars, but takes a lot of money to bend physics, and you can only bend so much before you have to do something like make the car wider with wider tires.

I do like the front and side view. The rear end is decidedly portly, and really detracts from the overall view.

It's as if it tapers down too much at the back. Anyway, they can make a 911 any way they want, it still remains my favourite car.

Honesty, Porsche is still at the top of its game more so than anyone else IMO. The GT3RS runs 6:56 at the Ring with only 500 hp. McLaren and Ferrari have yet to post a sub 7 min time to my knowledge in anything, HyperCars included. On the other end for Porsche, the 911S and GTS run as fast as any McLaren, Ferrari or anything else that has 600-700 hp, yet only have hp ratings in the low to mid 400s. I don’t think anyone can touch them for driver dynamics either or quality...and on top of that they are still far less than most anything else.
I love my 991.2S...such a phenomenal car in every way.

Interesting. That middle light bar has always been a design of the 4 and 4S models if I remember correctly. It looks like it's starting to trickle down also to other VAG products like Audi. A move to create 'identity' that it's a VAG product?

All 911's had full width tails from 1974-1998, so it's nice to see them return.

And then Lamborghini stomps it. Told ya, superior chassis is a superior chassis. Doesn't mean the porsche sucks, but they have to work harder than everyone else to "stay on top".
