In-Car Chimes and Alerts

What’s with BMW’s new in-car chimes and alerts?

Don’t feel like I’m in a BMW anymore, sound-wise.

My 2011 750 is in the shop and have a 2017 X5 loaner.

Figure the G11/12 has the same chimes.

Weird.

Who cares about the tones? That would not be a reason to purchase or not purchase a BMW -- or any other car for that matter.

Nothing wrong, per se, but just not "BMW" either.

Sounds too light and too modern; not strong or solid; almost fragile.

As if they're applying what should be exclusive to the "i" line of vehicles throughout the range.

Lol. Did I say that? Nevertheless, everything factors in.

Why mess with something that resonated as their signature.

Improvements / tweaks, okay, but these are very different tones now.

BMW sure cares...

You got a G12 as a loaner and your only comment is on the chimes?

OP, I agree, the "gong" doesn't sound like it did before, it sounds cheap and very synthetic. The previous chime sounded very classy and authentic. As a plus, the movement of the vehicle image when you go to vehicle settings in the idrive is pretty nice.

I also realized it's similar to them moving away from the traditional orange / amber interior lighting to blue and white. Evolution I suppose. :|

Have you tried changing the Sound Signal set through coding?

I haven't, as it wasn't my car, but it's a good question; whether or not the coding is still there for it to be turned on or off.
