I hope some day bmw will bring this "x" within the headlights, also seen in the X2 concept..small details, but set cars apart in the street. Looking good..let's see the production version

Would be cool if the doors opened up like the i8's.

Further analysis. Concept not too far from production reality.

The car looks big, as it should be. Hopefully will have more rear seat leg room than the 6-Series. It is meant to be the equivalent of a 2-door BMW 7-Series and a direct competitor to the Mercedes S-Class Coupe (which also is big and looks sexy). I was hoping it would have had a more lower roof line but seeing how this vehicle's mission is to be a luxurious Gran Touring car, having a lower roof line would give it less head room and make it less comfortable. I feel like it should also be a just a bit wider, perhaps another 50mm wider in stance to really set it apart and give it a more low slung look, although I am sure that it will already be wider than the S-Class Coupe.

What will be interesting to see is the Gran Coupe version of the 8-Series. That should hopefully yield more leg room in the back than the 6-Series Gran Coupe, being that the 8-Series is a bigger car.

Others things I hope for. Carbon Core. The 7-Series gets, the 8-Series should too! This will be especially beneficial for the ///M versions of the 8 Series. ///M Division should throw the V12 Twin Turbo from the M760i in the ///M8 but I know they won't, probably too heavy. The S63xx engine can make as much power as the V12 and is lighter. Or at least what would be cool is if there was a legit M860i in the future with that V12 engine.

I would expect Alpina to do their magic on the 8-Series as well. Alpina B8? Sign me up!

Other surprising things. Thank God the headlights are not touching the front kidney grills. Not a fan of that design. Speaking of the front kidney's, is Hooydonk now consulting Blue Whales for design inspiration? The whole of the design does seem a little Aston Martin Vanquish-ish, but not as sexy.

Starting base price for the 8-Series will probably exceed $100k for N63xx equipped models. Can't see them coming out with a cheaper 840i with a B48 engine. At least with the 6-Series we got the more affordable 640i Coupe, Gran Coupe, and Convertible too.

If BMW wants to cater to the type of people who want a 2-door 7-Series that's all well and good, but why did they have to kill a cheaper 6-Series at the same time? One thing is for sure, the 8-Series will be no 6-Series. The 8-Series main concentration will be on luxury with everything else taking a backseat (both figuratively and literally).

The rear end is quite ugly, but I give them credit for taking some risks stylistically. The rest of the car is very good looking.

Am I the only one who isn't too impressed with this design? The back looks good and so do the sides, but every where else looks too fat for me. That hood is way more bulbous than it should be and I wish the bottom bumper tapered off instead of protruding. After how beautiful the E31 was this isn't an adequate encore I'm my own opinion. Interested to see how this concept is going to translate into an actual production run.

Well done BMW. Hope it drives well. Test drove a new Panamera Turbo yesterday and that car is pretty impressive. Porsche have moved the game on in that sector

Notwithstanding the hyperbolic press release, the car is not "alluring" or any of the other adjectives a team of copywriters spent a week looking up on a thesaurus.

The car looks like a design a bunch of Buick stylists tried to make look fresh -- for a Buick product.

While I'll reserve final judgment until I see it in the metal, it looks soft, bloated and heavy. In other words, perfect competition for the soft, bloated and heavy Merc S class coupe. The interior looks spartan, not luxurious. And the computer screen is too low on the dashboard. Are BMW interior stylists taking their cues from the incompetent Tesla interior stylists?

$200 grand? Pardon me while I laugh.

Is it? I didn't see any mention of this in the press release.

Obviously it is a large coupe meant to compete in the marketplace against other coupes of this size which typically weigh in at or above 4500lbs, yes. So I agree that 1600kg is utterly arbitrary, absolutely out of the question, and not even worth entertaining as a possible weight figure.

But I don't think it will have a V12 engine, nor do I think it will share a wheelbase with the G12 7 Series Li model. In that regard, I would not describe it as "based on the... 760Li" and would thus not necessarily bet it will weigh in at 5000lbs. In fact, depending on unibody and chassis materials/design, it could be closer to 4000lbs. than 5000lbs.

It looks like a BMW attempt at a Maserati. Sort of derivative design. Good looking but not great looking car. I suppose that can be a good thing, as the Bangle era cars didn't look like "BMWs" either and it ignited a lot of interest in the brand.

Interior design appears reminiscent of the original 8-series. Material and build quality looks out of this world solid.

BMW concept cars always look very similar to the real product. Certainly some aspects like the wheels and front/rear end will be toned down, but this should give a good snapshot of the final product.

Btw did anybody else cringe at the idea of the 6-series name being tarnished with that stupid 5er GT? I thought there was a report 2-3 years ago saying BMW was very disappointed in 5GT sales (to nobody's surprise) so they were going to shelve it for the next generation.

Those horrid things apparently sell well in China, so they'll never die.
