S Class Coupé is 5m03. This is allegedly 4m84, i.e. only 20cm longer than the 4 Series Coupé / Gran Coupé and 5cm shorter than the outgoing 6 Series Coupé. How is that huge and what would be the point and the credibility of an 8 as short as the 4?

Old 6-Series Concept picture for comparison.

The Chinese market is largely responsible for the ugly GTs and BMW's watered down driving dynamics since 2009.

Not to mention Buick's mere existence is owed to them. Quite unfortunate overall.

I think you're overreacting a bit. BMW, like Audi, chooses to go the simple/modern/sporty route with their interior designs. I personally like the traditional flair that Merc adds to their interiors, but nobody is going to sit inside and think "wow this makes me feel like driving fast."

I can tell they used the original 8er's interior as an inspiration when designing this car. It's definitely a bit on the "plain" side, but the simple design fits the brand's identity.

I find the 4 series coupe already too long. So this is way too long for my liking. Just not a fan of long 2 door coupes.

it looks similar to an aston martin db9, 10 etc. But it's beautiful nonetheless.

Good to hear CF core. What's the target weight?

I'm sorry but that's kind of ugly. Especially from the front. Flat nose shark. Nothing like the glorious 8 from old times. The grills are downright atrocious. The side profile is nice, i guess. But just nice. Same w/ the rear. And the interior. The interior looks like a plain old Accord or Altima coupe interior adorned with high grade materials. This is not special, nor unique. I hope BMW corporate has several designs to choose from before actually releasing this. If not, this will be overhyped and underdelivered.

On my way to see it tomorrow. In Florence, Italy now and heading to Lake Como after going to the D' Vinci Museum in the morning.

Then cars all weekend for work. BMW 8 Series unveiling tomorrow afternoon and Villa Erba auction preview.

Saturday Villa Erba Auction and the Concorso D'Elegance Villa d'Este on Sunday. This is going to be all kinds of awesome.

Very disappointed. Bmw needs to step up their game or it will quickly lose its premium customers. No one will pay the asking price for this. It is not special. It's a 'me too' car. Inside looks cheap IMO. Bmw, c'mon - you can do better. Sad. But to be honest, I am not surprised. Bmw has been asleep at the wheel in terms of external design aesthetics and interior cabin for a few years now.

Nobody else thinks the rear overhang is way too long? The proportions remind me of a wonky buick concept from the early 2000's

Interior is very Aston Martinish Jaguarish. That shift knob is straight out of Volvo.

I was saying the same thing in the other thread - the rear is off somehow, and the overhang might be it. Just looks too long...sort of how the rear of the 4er looks too long.
