New 2018 Lexus LC 500 - Got to see it in person, pics & short vid inside.

Went to a car event this past Sunday that featured some high end cars (Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren, MB, BMW etc.)
Lexus brought out their new LC 500 and a rep was there asking if people wanted more info (brochure) on it. At first I didn't even notice it as it was parked randomly next to some other cars and it was a BLACK color in a sea of bright supercars! lol

Anyway here my thoughts and observations:
- The car is really big. Its definitely a S550 coupe / 650i competitor rather than 911 / SL550.
- Side of the car is beautifully done, very exotic imo.
- Front is absolutely HIDEOUS. (I like RCF/GSF front but on the LC, the predator grill is no bueno.)
- Rear is OK but a bit over styled especially the lower exhaust area.
- Interior was a big letdown. No way this is nicer than S550 in person. The color reminds me of the old burgundy interiors in 70s/80s Cadillacs.
- Wheel gap and offset are weak and ruin stance of the car compared to concept
- Lexus made a dumb decision bringing a Black car that does not standout, Red would of looked better.
- I personally did not see too much interest in it from the people there.
- If they price it at $100k as we are hearing, $20-25k discounts will follow.

Damn, their whole design division needs to just get replaced. The predator face was a mistake from the get go and they're just out of place and touch with the market.

I like the design of the LC 500 inside and out. A beautiful car without question. This car just oozes luxury. However drivetrain is totally out of date... Put a new Panamera S or hybrid engine in the car, and something as good as pdk or at least zf8, then we are talking. Otherwise, definitely not interested.

I think the car is stunning. 25K discounts on a Lexus?? Lol, you must be high.

I wouldn't buy a car with a rear end that reminds me of a Prius. Lexus designs simply don't differentiate themselves from Toyotas enough now (and the cars' big gaping whale-mouth maw of a front end is part of that). At Lexus' level, parts and design-cue sharing should be saved for things under the hood in anything other than entry-level cars.

Strangely, though, I like the interior. The materials mix is a miss (love the Cadillac quip by one poster; that suede (?) reminds me of the velour in a 1980s Cimarron, lol). If that overall design were a little more cozy (it looks gargantuan), it could be a superb place to spend road time in.

Finally: I bet Lexus chose a black car to show so it would minimize the uber-trendy floating C-pillar that's part of the design (and, now, part of Lexus' design language as seen on the new RX). On this car, it completely ruins the flow.

Front end sucks, wheels suck, the what-I-assume-to-be alcantara looks like it sucks, and I really hope the exhaust pipes aren't fake which would really suck too. Looks like it's a true automatic too, no dual-clutch, that sucks. Lot of suckage going on with this car. Going to be pretty tough to compete at the $100k price point...

Looks like a sweet car on the outside until you get to that travesty of a front grill. The only thing I dislike more is pretty much the entire interior. I always disliked the SC series...looks like they kept the same engineers around for this one.

What a hodge podge of terrible design elements. Nothing stunning about it. Perhaps stunningly Prius ugly like.

Ughhhh that interior is hideous!!

With the two tier design which creates a giant shelf where the air vents are and control stalks that stick out of the instrument cluster binnacle

The grill is awful. It ruins the front end big time.

Inside and out are horrid. But Lexus could sell the world's ugliest car, the last SC430, and the second ugliest SUV, the LX570, so this will sell just fine.

This post shows you know ZERO about Lexus pricing.

There are massive discounts ($10k+) currently on new GSF and RCF.
Historically Lexus has not done well selling expensive cars >$75k.
LS600h and GS450h are special order only, while GSF and RCF are sitting on dealer lots. Even LFA did not sell.

They do well with NX, RX and ES but everything else does not sell well.

I mostly like it. The only two elements I don't like are small and petty; the interior door handles are laughable and the rear spoiler looks like an afterthought. If it needs a spoiler to help with stability, at this price point, they should have designed an integrated/self-deploying one.

I actually like this car a good amount, and I find that the predator grille works here alright (for me) since the overall car is kind of a wild design. I even like the dash because it reminds me of a 4th gen Honda Prelude. Then again, I may be blinded by my 90s nostalgia.

Side note, is this guy smoking a joint?

He's clearly the designer.

Just noticed the "headlights" have three pieces of flair.

Love it. Thanks for the pics. I'm more of a German-car-guy but I'd take daring revolutionary designs over boring sausages of different sizes any day! This might just be the car for me considering that I always wanted an E63 6er because of how stunning it looked but by the time I grew up and got my license I had to settle for an F13 since the E63 was out of production. IMO THIS is the car that would appeal more to Bangle's fans than current BMWs. Don't get me wrong the F13 is a beautiful car and I love mine but it's just not as exciting or outlandish as the E63 was then it came out.
