Yes, you're absolutely right, and Fiat was credited with the first VVT engine - but who built them on a large scale first?

This whole standpoint is just brutally uninformed. Get out and experience more cars because you're doing yourself a huge disservice.

A car needs to be autocrossed in order to be fantastic? Give me a break. Read some actual reviews or, better yet, go drive the cars yourself.

That's not what I said. I said I bought the car because I enjoy the way it drives as well as the creature comforts. You dodged the question of what the Japanese counterpart would be...

To correct you a bit, here are the vehicles my car actually shares a chassis with:
Audi A5 (Typ 8T, 2007-)
Audi A4 (Typ 8K, 2008-)
Audi Q5 (Typ 8R, 2009-)
Audi A8 (Typ 4H, "D4", 2010-)
Audi A7 (Typ 4G, 2010-)
Audi A6 (Typ 4G, "C7", 2011-)
Porsche Macan (2013-)

Winner, Lexus

Have fun with being a a second tier BMW Audi (because that's all it will ever be)
Not sure if that was English but I don't see my car in any of those tests. I also don't claim that Audi is the best manufacturer in the world so it means absolutely nothing to me. Congrats, Lexus built a winner with the IS, however it still sounds lame and lacks the bite it should have, given the menacing look of the car. If you're going to be aggressive, be aggressive. Don't half-ass it.

Part of being a real enthusiast is being impartial. I've owned a dozen cars and never owned the same brand twice. Live a little.

Who gives a shit? I don't buy cars because they were the first on the moon, I buy them because I like them and they work for my needs.

I will admit, the interior of the new Mazda is not bad at all (especially for a Japanese car), but honestly it's because it resembles the new BMW interiors lol.

Personally I like the clean sleek lines of the German interiors (except the last gen BMWs don't know what they were thinking) over the high-techy spaceship like interiors the Japanese like to do. Then again my friend (who drives a Prius) thinks the more touch screens the better, irregardless of design. That's why both Japanese and German automakers seem to find someone willing to purchase their vehicles I guess.

I have owned several VWs (MKIV Jetta 1.8t, MKV GTI, MKV Jetta, 2011 CC) and can only recall a water pump going bad on my MKV GTI that was replaced under warranty. I also own an EX35 (which is great) that has only had to go into the shop once so far for some $50 part that blew up that I don't recall what it was. However its a 2008 with about 50k miles and the dash is already cracking, I've never had that happen to any car I've ever owned. The most unreliable car I have ever owned to date was my 2009 335i, I couldn't even tell you how many times that thing was at the dealer.

Awww crap. Guess I'll go trade my BMW in for a Buick then. Because as everyone knows, only one thing matter when buying a car. And that's how reliable they are! I'll take a pic when I bring my Regal home.

I'll just leave this over here...

While I go trade in all my cars for Lexus ESs.

Manufacturers skew those numbers. How do I know because I worked for 3 auto manufacturers in their IT dept on the warranty side of the house and we sent those numbers in based on what was wanted by the mother ship. And I suppose you believe Consumer Reports is totally unbiased as well?

If the Japanese are 3rd tier, VW is just bottom of the barrel.

How do manufactures skew these (and CRs) numbers when they aren't invited to participate. CR uses data from actual subscribers and doesn't accept advertising money. In fact, CR BUYS all of their cars outright. I'm sure JD actually sends a survey out to new car owners - so where is the skewing.

VW sucks, I don’t know why it’s hard to admit - but let me guess, EVERYONE is against them.

What else can I do at this point? It's less reliable, doesn't handle as well, it's more expensive. Why would you want a VW?
