Aww.

I'd probably teach the guy how to drive a manual first to make it easier to steal the car.

Have you ever seen a female using their fists? No? We can't pull that off.

You kick in a knee, then you get them to the face with an elbow.

Men cry when you hit them in the balls. A knee destroyed is far kinder.

Over here insurance works otherwise ..When our cars are one year old that's - 10% value the insurance will cover , 2 year old - 20% , 3 year old - 30 % ect...
I would jump on my car as well ..

And *IF* the police would find your car after X time...In what condition you think your car would be ?
I'm sure your car would be never the same again !
In Belgium, the victim would have to pay for the carjacker's "pain and suffering" from not being able to make a clean getaway.

All jokes aside, if that happened in Western Europe, the car would be in Romania by morning.

Your comment is actually no joke , because over here in Belgium your description is possible ...

I'm sure you remember my thread => http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1130412
BTW...The ///M3 disappeared forever !

We had also several cases of home jackings , and the owners of the house shot the home jackers (not killed ) and the owners of the house ended up in jail !
That's one of the reasons that I love Belgium...

But in one thing Belgium is really good => Countless speedcams to screw us , even for cyclists !

Wonder if USAA would cover a new windshield and drivers seat after I stuck 3-4 rounds through them and a car jacker?

Valour is a form of silliness and the girl just proved it clearly. Yet, people who fight for their rights do deserve respect: they act for public good (safety in this case) at the very least. You don't have to be dumb to defend what's yours either: if you respect yourself you might need to make your point.

Never. Why would I? She was literally right next to her car when the guy got in and tried to drive off. My cars are 2nd and 3rd most expensive things I own behind my house so it doesn't make sense to me to not take the key, it's too easy. I also lock the doors on my house when I leave, unlikely to matter then either as I don't believe anyone has ever shown up and checked.

I am fine with everyone doing what they want but I won't congratulate someone for leaving their key in their car, it getting stolen and them fighting to get it back as it looks like the exact problem I easily avoid.

Even without keyless entry, this works. All you need is keyless start.

First off, OP: I'm as red-blooded a male and as un-PC as they come, but your post is sexist as hell. It even offended me. This situation has nothing to do with her being 'cute' ...

... or from Wisconsin, for that matter. Like a woman from Minnesota couldn't have the same balls (or: be as stupid?). Jaysus.

As for CC, AtlasM and 1MOREMOD are exactly right: she would have had no right to pull a gun as she put her own life in danger by getting on the hood, and if she did draw and these were hardcore gangbangers, they likely would have capped her (and, frankly, she's lucky that they weren't because 'dat Caddy is a favored ride for 'em.)

Bottom line: the woman was incredibly stupid and naive to act the way she did. She was exceedingly lucky.

Sure but do you lock the doors to your house if you're just going into the backyard for a few minutes? Same sort of situation. Maybe I'm not paranoid enough, but I don't think it's unreasonable. Especially since on some cars (including our BMWs), the doors have to be unlocked for the filler door to open.

It's just habit for me to always take my keys out of the car. No way I'd leave them in when it takes me zero effort to take them out. Of course I've also seen people run into the convenience store with the car running, so...
And a house is not the same situation depending on the neighborhood, and which typically involves more recon them a smash and grab job like the op posted.

No one is going to steal my house and there is nothing of great value that someone can run in and take off with quickly. Then with your keys in your car (or especially the people that leave the car running) people walk by your car, see your keys, and see that it is very easy to get (unlike the unlocked house) which no one has any idea if it is locked or there are other people in the house. BMW is worth roughly $27k (and a massive hassle if it is stolen) and TV in my house probably has a true value of $300, someone runs in and steals my TV it's not even worth calling the insurance company.

I don't see it as even close to the same situation.

Also, taking my key with me has nothing to do with the door being unlocked and if for some reason I decide to go in the store I don't have to grab the keys or leave the car sitting there with the keys in it.
