Jumpy Engine...?

So my uncle just got a 2009 F02 back in July (after ED in April/May) so he's had it for a couple of months now. Today the whole family went downtown for brunch, a bunch of them rode bikes while I chauffeured my mom-to-be cousin in the F02! While at brunch my uncle asked me if I noticed the engine being "jumpy," which I had. He's had 2 E38's (1998 740iL & 2001 740i) and an E66 (2004 745Li). We never had this issue with any of the other 7's. My question is, does anyone else notice this "jumpy-ness" to the engine, is it something that he is just going to have to get used to (maybe something to do with the turbos) or is this something he should have looked at...? Thanks!

i mentioned this in my E65 vs. F01 thread. My 335 does it and so does our new 750i, so I'm thinking its just the nature of the BMW turbo engines.

Thanks for the reply! I checked out your thread, great info!

If anyone else has any thoughts or ideas, please let me know! Otherwise it looks like it is something we will just have to get used to!

I guess to some its a jumpy engine, but to me its just a responsive no-turbo-lag engine. I like it. Much rather this way than lag like a stock 997TT.

Really? I don't have that problem. The car and the engine are among the smoothest I have ever owned, and I have had CL550, previous 7 series, Bentley GT, etc.

I have a similar problem on my E65 735i. When driving it feels like a manual clutch slip, there's a definite lag when I accelerate (about a second) and the rev counter blips between around 1800-2000rpm. Higher speeds and this problem dissipates. A local BMW master technician claimed it was due to an air hose having split and that certainly helped resolve some of the jumpiness when changed but it is still apparent. My man is still to figure it out and has suggested a possible reset/remap of the ECU.
