M550 or used 750?
I have to turn in my 335, and I have back issues so I need the multicontour seats
Looking at new m550 but for the same price used 2016 740 and 750 are available , the air suspension in those are fantastic for my back and I can get in addition to multicontour seats I can get massage functions
I have driven several and the only reason why I wouldn't go with the 7 is the length size and shorter warranty
Am I crazy to consider the 7?
I looked at a f10
550 but for what they were asking it is only a few thousand more to get a 2016 7
I did read the recent thread I am looking at new M550 at $85k vs a 2016 certified pre owned 750 with Msport at $69k or 2018 740 or 740e at $85 -90k

Your in the US, not sure why the size is a problem. You've got parking spaces you could fit a tank in I've ordered a M760Li as we get the short and long wheel base in the UK but the 760 is only available in the LWB. It might be interesting parking it here but hey too late, I've ordered it and I'll have to find a way.

I guess though having said all that the M550 is an awesome car. If your picking the options plus colour that might be worth going that route but if it's a pre-built dealer stock car then your losing one of the good points of going new if you ask me.

If you've a bad back though, go for the comfort of the 7. I think you'll not regret it.

I was in the same spot...I actually was working on a new M550i order when an Msport 750 CPO 3k miles loaded width individual interior popped up for less than the M550i...I pulled the trigger. No regrets. The 750 is a great car...yes, it's big but I'm in heaven everyday I drive it.

I looked at both as well. Ended up going with the M550i. Oddly enough, there was a brand new 2016 Silver/Black 740i Sport that was never sold available for about $20K less than I paid for the M550i. (And this was last month - January 2018.) It was tempting, just because of the price, but I could not resist after driving the M550i - even with having to wait 2 months for the order to come in...

Congrats. Did you get to drive the 740i to compare?

What sold you on the M550i? Just curious.

I drove both the 740i & 750i, both with sport package, and they are great cars. The rear seat room is fantastic. The 740i runs great (I love the straight-six, going all the way back to my first BMW, a new 1998 528i Sport) and would please just about anyone - including me - for a daily driver. The 750i has great power - and that's a kick to play with. Space wise, I felt like the 5 and the 7 feel really close to the same size if you're in the front seat. But my decision came down to the sporting nature of the M550i. It's just more fun to drive and the surprising speed/exhaust note is intoxicating. I don't live in an urban area, so I get to drive on twisty back roads every day. Bottom line, I was a bit greedy and went for my own guilty pleasure instead of the back-seat riders?!?! My father-in-law has a 750iL and I was in his car this weekend. I really like that car too...

It's not greedy picking the car you want. It's not like your back seat passengers have to slum it in the rear of a M550i, it's still a great place to be.

Interesting on the dynamics. Do you know if the car you drove had Executive Drive Pro (Active Anti-roll bars) and / or 4 wheel steering? Both I think affect the 7 series quite a bit when it comes to handling.

For reference I have a F10 M5 currently so very solid handler for the size of the car. I'd not claim the 7 series matches that because it doesn't however at least with the M760Li the difference isn't as big as you'd think in my opinion. However that car does have all the tricks the 7 series has available fitted to it. On a track or right on the limits it wouldn't be there but on roads it's quite surprising. It handles well enough to keep me happy anyway

Oh and spent 3 months a long time ago in Texas. No doubt you've some great roads to play with. Had to come home though because Homeland security wouldn't have been happy otherwise

To be fair, neither of the 7's had rear wheel steering - not sure about the adaptive dampers... I did get the DHP/active suspension & rear wheel steering on the M550i (in fact, I got every package and every option except rear seat entertainment and the B&W stereo.)

I'm out West of Austin in the hills - great driving environment! The car is on a boat just off of the New York coats right now. It is supposed to hit the Port of Galveston, TX on Sunday. Can't hardly wait... I'll post pics when it's here.

Sounds wonderful, congrats and an almost fully loaded model as well.

They don't offer the M550i in the UK, it's either a full fat M5 or a 6 cylinder model. It's a shame but I guess not enough people here would buy one.
