Test Drove the new 750i

I just test drove a 750i last night. let me tell you it definitely is something different. I drove the new s550 as well, this bmw is a lot better in terms of driving dynamics, it feels different! the air suspension makes the car ride like a stable cloud almost feels like you are flying low instead of being on the ground. The seat massage was pretty cool! it is actually a massage now. The acceleration to me was the thing that stood out the most. The car hits 0-60 almost like my f10 m5 and the difference is there is no drama. It is sneaky, like really sneaky you don't realize how fast you are going. I had the same feeling about the m5 when I first got it but now my m5 feels really old. It was a BMW demo car so it lacked some options that I really wanted to check out, eg the rear executive lounge and the illuminated moon roof. The new key is useless because the DOT did not approve the self parking system but it looks cool though!

The best thing about this car is you don't get body roll but you still don't a rough ride. It is perhaps the smoothest car I drove, the cabin to me sounded really quiet It made me feel like my ears were blocked! I recommend everyone to try it out

Interesting - thanks for sharing.

I too would like to get my hands on the new 7er. I stopped paying attention to the 7 series after the E38 (specifically the E38 740i Sport).

What was the listed price?

The October issue of 'CAR' U.K. had a very positive first impression test drive of the 7.

buddalun I believe it was listed at around 104k. It was a pricy demo car. I would very much like to see other peoples comparisons of the 750i and the s550. I could tell you the tech in the beemer is better and the quality of the dash feels a lot more premium. My salesmen made some emphasis on how BMW is moving towards Modern Luxury instead of premium. I really felt like I was in the future though haha

Does 'modern luxury' mean less 'luxury' than 'premium'?

Did the salesperson elaborate on what he/she meant?

dbs600 Modern luxury is sort of a different kind of luxury. The color themes, the lighting systems. I would not say less luxury but a really different kind of luxury. For example the S class is more premium luxury and the BMW is more modern luxury. Meaning the S class has of a classical theme where as the BMW has a more modern futuristic theme. The car had aluminum (real aluminum) and the materials felt like they were of the best quality

I think this is accurate.

I happen to see an Individual interior yesterday, and while I was not originally impressed with the new 7 interior, I must say that the Individual did look good, and I was a bit impressed.

They can call it whatever they want, but both compete for the same customers and deliver the best they've got, in luxury, in tech, in being 'modern', etc.

Lighting themes galore - they both employ same - advanced iDrive and Command systems - they both employ same. The list is endless.

In all, BMW is more driver oriented (firmer) and MB is more passenger oriented (relaxed), traits that are most evident on stripped-down, base 7 and S models, as once heavy hitting options are added; Individual / Designo, Rear Seat Packages or Autobahn Package / Magic Body Control, etc. they are both beasts on every level.

Such that tech advances now allow non-luxury vehicles to have advanced infotainment and driver assistance systems traditionally seen exclusively on luxury vehicles, luxury makes need to step up being more distinctive through safety, design and material quality; unfortunately, the new 7 looks more 3-like than 7-like, while the S looks like an S, even though the S and C are the same sausages of different lengths.

Avant-garde design is what the 7 was about; Asian themed now; not good.

The parking system was the only thing modern in that car honestly. It was really cool though you get to view your car in 3d and move it around like a game. Better than the birds eye view
