Nothing more pointless
Any reasonably experienced driver would find it easier to drive into a parking spot and park in the usual way. If the spot is to narrow, you're better off not parking there as the other car/driver may scuff or ding your door as they exit.
I can see this being marginally ok if you have a narrow garage as many of us do in the UK. But then hardly anyone parks in the garage either. I would save this ££ and stick on other options I would expect to use more often.

It's funny reading all the American posts. People here fail to realize sometimes that BMW doesn't only do R&D for JUST the US market. BMW is a European company. For those who have never been to Europe, it is VERY TOUGH to find decent parking, especially with a big a$$ 7 series. So yes, this is very useful in many countries, although, it may not be useful for YOUR market....that's probably why NA is probably not getting it.

A little late BMW. Tesla:
"Autopilot Parking Model S helps you find a parking spot and automatically parks in it. In the city, it will notify you when it finds a parallel parking spot, then control steering, acceleration and deceleration to back smoothly into it. When approaching a Supercharger station, Model S automatically parks in an open stall. Model S will even park itself in your garage at home. With calendar syncing enabled, Model S checks current traffic conditions to determine how much time is needed to make your first meeting of the day. At the right time, it turns on the climate control and opens the garage door. On private property, Model S will even pull out of the garage and meet you at the curb." Catch up... |

I'm a little disappointed with the negativity in this thread. It's a luxury just like any other. You don't need back up cameras to park, but it's nice to have. It could be very useful even in not so tight spaces, think of a multi-story parking garage when you have your friends with you and you don't want them dinging doors. Not to mention the cool factor.
I would agree that the Range Rover app is superior, it's just a prototype right now. For me this is a step in the right direction. |

How about you come back later once Tesla actually releases autopilot instead of just marketing promises that owners already paid for a long time ago?

If it uses the same sensors as my M4 it will run into the parking curb and screw up the front lip.

This feature would have been great when I did my ED pick up for my M4. This is a picture of my friend's garage in Nice. I had to crawl out of the trunk!

It's a cool gadget, but I would bet money no one ever uses it after a few months. I'd rather see remote start. If you live somewhere hot or cold, it's a hell of a lot more useful than backing out of my parking spot for me.

The technology is cool. The physical size of the key is something else. Women have purses we have pockets full of phones, keys etc. I was originally disappointed when we did not get the key on the i8's but now not so sure.

Driving, not parking
This should read:
"Watch the BMW 7 series being DRIVEN forward and backwards with it's remote." This is not parking. (Also, can you start it up and have it drive out of the tight spot??)
