Really like the variety people are coming up with...

Just a few comments on some of the vehicles

- Audi A7: awesome looking car but a bit too long for what she would be comfortable with

- American: sorry - I can't let that happen

- Japanese/ Korean: She won't let that happen

- Macan: I think it would be a stretch financially for the one I would like as I am saving for a GT3

- BMW 3/4 series: I've sat in so many of these and the interior is just a level down from the new C-class. Would also want something a little bit different than the M4

- Evoque: for some reason she views Jag/RR the same way I view 8'oclock coffee, an Indian company and is disinterested

- Used M5: that would be sweet but I think she would hurt herself and it would be a stretch financially

- Used C63: possibly

- X1/3: awesome exterior but I actually thought the interior is still not that great. I can't get over that dakota leather crap

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned a used e90 M3. I've seen those things get down to $35k for a good example

X5d, just an incredible engine in a very safe, stout SUV.

Wagon it up. Or a hot 5 door hatch could be great fun. If you must SUV, I really like the VW offerings.

If it were me though, I'd splurge a bit and get a new mid trim wagon, or a top trim from a few years back. E63 AMG Estate comes fondly to mind.

A friend of mine just bought his wife a loaded CPO SQ5 for mid $40k. Great value, very quick actually. Has the nice smooth leather and carbon fiber interior trim.

If she wants a car, CPO F10 550i m-sport are a good value. Less than $40k for clean low mileage examples.

Kids = big suv

Imagine a babysit taking up entire seat in the back and forcing you to push the front seat into the dash and in the back you have a nice stroller that fills up trunk.

- VW Jetta, because that's all she needs (put the balance in Porsche fund)
- Audi A3 or Mercedes CLA if she insists on the badge
- Audi S3 or Mercedes CLA45 if you want to be able to drive it without being frustrated and are prepared to pay $15-$20k more for that privilege
- Audi Q3 or Mercedes GLA or BMW X1 if she prefers an SUV
- Mercedes GLA45 if she prefers an SUV and you want to be able to drive it without being frustrated and are prepared to pay $15-$20k more for that privilege

I would caution anyone who is preparing for children to not get caught into the whole automotive marketing machine. You can transport kids just fine in small/medium sized passenger cars. Kids are pretty small after all.

this is not true. it is easier to drive a car and it is much easier for kids to get in and out. I never needed anything more than my 330 for fam vacations. The best fam car is a station wagon or minivan. SUVs are not necessary if you know how to pack. People travel the world with one backpack.

Rear facing monster seat fits in the middle of our 3er and I'm 6'2. Bob stroller fits in the trunk with room for groceries and other errands. Dog fits too. SUV's are fine and all, but absolutely not necessary for kids.

Let me change the route of this thread a bit.
Whatever vehicle it may be needs ventilated seats that actually perform. Also, I'd avoid a big glass sunroof if possible.

Can you elaborate on why not the sunroof? The c class has a panoramic roof as an option that many dealer cars come with

Just a way of lessening internal heat. Actual difference? Maybe, maybe not.
I don't think I'd miss what she wants over it though.

MB of Plano is having a hail sale I think lol. Porsche, Audi, MB, Toyota, Acura all got hit a few days ago. West Plano area. If you're looking down here that is.

I just got a 2014 GTI D.E. for my husband, it's a surprisingly excellent car. We settled on a DSG because of the deal I got on the car (I'm a sales manager at a large dealer group, I got it from one of our stores for what they had into it). We will have at least one kid in the near future - this car totally would work for that, and its a pleasure to drive... tho we had it for a week and its at the VW store right now for a h20 pump and turbo under warranty.

Way more fun than I would ever expect 4 cal, turbo, front wheel drive and automatic to ever be

I see no better car than a Lexus IS350 F Sport. Luxury, four doors, sporty enough, available awd, and ultra reliable.

I second this option for what you seem to want, ie, quality interior, not too big, and still sporty so that when you drive it you'll like it.

The C class is just blah to me. Audi is on a serious roll right now.
