Exclamation Mustang GT350R runs similar lap times as the GT3.

Quite a feat for a $60k car. The journalists are now reviewing the GT350R and the reviews are very positive. Weight for the R is coming in at 3650 with the regular GT350 100lbs heavier.

Did I read that correctly? It beats the GT3 according to Ford Engineers on one specific track by 0.1 seconds? Let's see how it does is real life from a non-biased source. But impressive nonetheless to even be in the same conversation as a GT3.

Thing looks mean coming around that left turn. No doubt this car is a beast and I do want and like it but the GT3 is a boyhood dream type car. Life isn't about lap times for every one.

So now that American cars are making faster or on par lap times or handles better compared dream cars, lap times or curves or handling dont matter? Lol.......

I was hoping the 350R would be lighter, at least 3400 but oh well.

Impressive? If they said it was within .5 sec of the GT3 I would say it's impressive. Being faster is almost unbelievable, even if it is only on one track so far. This car is less than half the price of the 911. And it's not like the track they are testing on is some really wonky setup that would overwhelmingly favor the Ford. I'm a big 911 fan but I don't see how someone looking for a weekend track toy could pass over this car and pick up a GT3 without giving it a hard look and some serious thought.

Again lets wait for an unbiased source but hey I agree if on a legit track with the same driver if it can come within a second of the GT3 then that's almost unbelievable. If it beats it? Yeah game over.

Because you might be an elitist and couldn't dare have your grey poupon guzzling friends spot you in a pile of American garbage with a plastic clad interior........

i frankly dont care for the aesthetics of the mustang. i think fit and finish will be inferior to the porsche. the lighter weight will goto to the porsche. i prefer lighter weight cars for the track.

The Mustang is 1/4 of the price, of course the fit and finish aren't as good.

Now this is astounding and AWESOME. This is one car I wouldn't mind having after my F808 lease is over in a couple years. The noise it makes is spectacular..

Impressive..the sound that it makes from the cockpit is better than I imagined. I want this car! The only thing that give me pause is the weight...yes it won't adversely affect lap times, but in my next car I would want a sense of greater agility compared to what I have already, just in terms of the "fun to drive" factor.

Agree. Highly doubt this will be anywhere near what a GT3 can do. I'm sure the 'comparison' is more marketing hype due to the GT3's Godly status and the ultimate benchmark when it comes to trackable street cars.

Love the look and a lot of M3/4 guys are going to be crying when they see what this car is going to do it those cars at a nice chunk less money.

A lot of 911 guys will be crying to based on your logic... the Ford will outpace the 911S by a god margin if this is even partially correct (relative to the GT3) for 1/2 the price.

If Ford has a nice interior, I would be all over the GT350... I can't handle the retro look to it but the sound and performance are undeniably awesome.

I honestly have a hard time seeing it matching a 991S either, especially now that the refresh is right around the corner. Even a base 991 currently, which is a 4 year old model beats the m3/4 and the 991S is in another league. The 991.2 is going to be a significantly faster car from everything I've heard from Porsche insiders, and that's saying a lot considering the performance the 991 puts up now, and every manufacture has been scratching their heads since the inception of the 991 and it will only continue.
I dont for a second believe the GT350 will be putting down numbers anywhere near a GT3. My guess is the GT350 was dialed in on Trofeo R's or something giving it a distinct advantage and not an apples to apples comparison. We will see when some independany tests come out but a 3700 lbs car with 520 Mustang hp is going to have a hard time running even with a 991S.

Very impressive, however...

Numbers and track times are only one side of the equation (at least for mostly a street driven car).

How confidence is the chassis, how does it make you "feel" when you drive it, how do the stock components hold up to abuse, etc.

From a track only perspective, I totally get it, from a day to day standpoint, that left to be seen.

I will say I would take one over the Z06 though. GM loves to build the Corvettes with just good enough components to get by on the street.

Ford at least is using quality components and over building the car.

OK... we'll see. Don't get me wrong... I really LOVE the 991 and am very close to buying one myself but don't be too blinded by fanboyism. It would not surprise me at all if the 350R beats the 991S and is close to a GT3. It is as close to a race car as Ford currently builds. Put another way... the Z51 C7 and the 991S run neck and neck on most tracks. I cannot imagine the GT350R doesn't beat the Z51.

The GT3, btw, is on r compounds too if I'm not mistaken. I thought it came with Sport Cup 2's... similar to the Trofeo.

Trofeo are a much better tire I believe.

So it sounds like the Gt350r should be compared to the GT3RS, and in that case I wish it a lot of luck.

In that case I'll take the gt350r with the trunk stuffed full of $100s and you can keep the 1-2 seconds per lap
