speaking of beater cars... lets get one! - most fun for $40k
i've recently had the urge to add some "american muscle" to the stable.
if you had no choice, which would you pick? Any options you want around $40k price. must be new! Chevrolet Camaro SS Dodge Challenger R/T SCAT Ford Mustang GT Other i only put other in there because there's always someone that can't stick to the guidelines. awww... fvck it, pick anything you want for around $40k. it better be fun to beat the hell out of though.

The Mustang GT.
With the Camaro, the designers didn't give a shit if the driver could see what was next to or behind you. The Challenger is great if you never have to turn the wheel. The Mustang GT is the most balanced and easy to live with car of the three IMO. |

I would get the Charger R/T Scat Pack before the Challenger but I LOVE what they've done with the interior of both vehicles. Huge improvement.
Mustang GT is an extremely close second place. It's definitely more tactile but if you're talking American Muscle, you talk in horsepower. The Scat cars deliver.

wow must be nice to consider a "beater" as a brand new $40k car. out of what you listed the mustang for sure. pricing is great for what you get and if you itch for more power some simple bolt ons will get you there.

Lol @ the $40K beater car...your fun car must be easily over $100K. But anyway, I'd rock the Mustang GT based on your list.

That's nothing, I'm in the market for a $200K beater car to keep the miles off my P1.

admittedly, i do want something just to beat up on but not the true definition of a beater. my first car was a beater... 79' impala for $500. my other cars do total over $125k but that does not make me rich. i'm far from it imo. rich is relative. Quote:
seriously love the sound of a proper v8! haven't drove the other ones yet.

Get a Subaru STI for that price. It's the best "all across the board" car for that price.

I gotta say, my SS with stiffer sways and braces was absolutely amazing for handling. Way better than my WRX or any STI I've driven, more lateral Gs, great response, balanced, etc. You really can just yank the thing into crazy turns. In the wet, it still way outhandled the subarus, only when it got icy did it suck comparatively. The engine is a gem obviously, but the car is the total package IME. It's also like riding in a submarine or old lamborghini for the outside view, but you adapt to it (not going to lie, the rear view isn't great).
The suspension on my SS was far above that of my 428 with DHP, not on the same planet. The faster you drive with the SS, the more it smooths out the road, even though it doesn't have gobs of suspension travel. It's well damped and well sprung. They went to great lengths to make it handle well, adding a bunch of stiffening to the already-decent holden chassis, battery low in the trunk for nearly 50/50 weight distribution, engine sits low and behind the front axle, etc. If you can get the 1LE package, go for it. |

2015 Camaro 1LE, best handling car you can get for below $40k!
If you want to wait, the 6th gen is less than a year until production. It will hands down beat the competition at that price. |

The Challenger Scat Pack is a monster for sure and the most comfortable cruiser...don't let the size/weight fool you...they are legitimately quick too....I've seen them tested as quick as 4.2 to 60 with the ZF eight.....
