Special Order Paint for 760LI

Hey everyone,

Been a lurker on these boards for a couple of years now - been a privilege thus far - seems like the collective experience and knowledge runs the full gamut here, so thought it was high time I joined, to ask my first question!

I'm looking to order a 760LI with M Sport Package sometime within the next 6 months... In terms of normal options, I think I am pretty well informed on what I'd like to add - from reading many of your reviews on here.

Where I am considering taking a different route from the standard option list is with the exterior paint color. From what I understand, most special orders fall under the Individual program. However, the two paint jobs I am considering, would be Imola Red, or the Polaris Metallic matte finish which was shown on the Z4 Mille Miglia (not unlike the "frozen" colors offered on the Competition M3s).

I will include a quick photoshopped pic of an Imola red 7 at the end of the post (the original photo was sourced from a member here on the boards - taken at a show, I am embarrassed to say I cannot remember from whom, but if someone knows, please lmk so I can give due credit)

The other color Polaris Metallic matte silver - - I am thinking of doing something not unlike the EAS blacked-out look, but perhaps having the trimmings in a gloss black - taking advantage of the switch-over from chrome that the M sport package now comes with.

While I am certainly open to opinions on if you think the color choice is fitting for a vehicle of this size, but the primary questions I would like to ask:

*Has anyone had any experience special ordering a color like this - beyond the Individual program's existing palette choice?

*Do you think that it is a realistic expectation to find a dealer to work with me - as well as BMW to provide a custom order paint job for the flagship of their line?

*Any idea on the costs associated with something of this nature? ....I assume that the matte silver would probably run a bit higher than Imola Red.

*And finally, if anyone knows of a good dealership that you've had experience, or know someone who has worked with special orders, please let me know - as I am not entirely convinced of the professionalism of my local dealer - -- I live in the Southeast US - and am prepared to travel to find the right dealer, but would prefer to stay in Florida if possible.

Thanks for any feedback or information!!

First of all: welcome!

Imola red is awsome!

It would be my pick of the two. They certainly do it for you. Imola red has been a standart option at the E38, and only a couple of months ago there was a preowned E65 760i in Imola red for sale in Germany. But more, an Imola red Alpina B7 has been spotted in Germany:

To your questions. First of all if you have a date in mind when you would like to have your car, start early ordering. Ordering Individual does consume more time.

Ordering a BMW colour, but one which is not in the option list of the speciffic car will set you back a couple of grand, max 5k I THINK (donīt blame me for being wrong on this one).

You can do an individual order with any dealer, because you wonīt be needing them to specify your car. The information about the program has to come from a specialist anyway. I suggest you talk to DBS600 here on the board, he seems to have found the right person to help him order special request at BMW NA. Otherwise contact Mark Carsson at M5board.com, he has with very individual M6 on Hawai and certainly knows who to speak to.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Thijs

Welcome!

Yes, as Thijs mentioned, your desired request is certainly possible, but for a considerable upcharge: From what I've gathered, the cost is 5,500 USD f(paint only, not including the Individual Composition Package) for any color that is not otherwise available as an option on the model, whether the color be from another model, past or present, or from another make entirely.

Special request Porsche color: http://www.7post.com/forums/showthre...ght=individual

Special request Bentley color: below.

I'm not familiar with the dealers of your area, but suggest that you start there (at the dealer level). If you have difficulty with salespersons, I suggest you ask to speak with the sales manager or general manager. If you still have difficulty, ask for the name of the regional reprentative, who will in turn put you in contact with the appropriate corporate parties. I highly recommend that you make an effort to have the dealers work this for you, but if all else fails, I should be able to point you in the right direction; PM me, need be.

WOW! I wonder if they would honor a Land Rover color! Check out the whopping $15k upcharge (paint alone) for the "Chromafair" line of paints (bottom of list available to the Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography!

VERY NEAT!

What that Porsche-coloured one looks great. And the Imola Red B7 looks fantastic. Would you go with the Inidividual Platinum interior with the red? I think that'd be my first choice. And it MIGHT work even nicer if you paint the M-Sport rims with something close to BMW's new Ferric Grey. Good luck with your selection!

Oh ya and that's my pic; just mentioning it since you asked

First off, thanks so much for the warm welcome! I appreciate all of your help and information!

Thijs, sounds like you pretty much hit the nail on the head from the beginning - I recall seeing that very special M6 on Hawaii - I guess BMW will work with you on some special projects, huh?

dbs600, Thank you very much for the confirmation on special ordering. I appreciate the pic - - that Bentley blue is almost right there with BMW's old M color, Estoril blue! Very striking. I appreciate the advice on following through with dealers, and then moving up the ranks if they are not familiar with the product. I'm in the process on relocating, so have not gotten down to brass tacks on ordering as of yet, hopefully, I will be able to get in contact with the right people... I really appreciate the offer of your assistance - and I will certainly hit you up if/when necessary! Thanks!!

bdardashti - -- thanks so much for providing the autoshow pix - -- those were the first "real life" photos I had seen of the 760 with M sport pkg. I hope you don't mind that I used them as a basis for my photoshopped Imola tryout! I agree on the platinum interior, along with perhaps the piano black trim in being a striking color combination. Only thing is, it seems like the light interior colors have a propensity to show wear and dirt/stains. A few of the dealerships that I have frequented thus far had brand new 7s with the oyster interior, and they already had stains. :/ Guessing either came from service garage, or just unloading them off the truck. I do agree the ferric grey would look nice with a sort of blackout on the Imola red or silver.

Thanks again for all of your help!

Yep, red paint is rare but doable

It will definitely polarize opinions. Make sure you do not have to care about potential depreciation... (which comes natural I guess since you are buying a 760 which drops like stone anyway)
