Cosmic String Theory

i was learning about the concept of This, and many questions arose. For one, how does one get to this theory, it must take a great amount on logical creativity as oximoronic as that sounds. Is there anybody on the forum with some sort of science backgrond that could answer my question..also, how did Richard Gott come to this conclusion on there being strings smaller than atoms in the universe, it is very outlandish of a theory, noone has ever seen or think that any cosmic string even exists today in our solarsystem (but again, because we know so little anything can exist in the universe because of it being so vast and the odds of something being there so big)

im only 16 so i have some time to think about this theory, you never know where science will be in the future...

anything is possible. Remember: for the longest time they thought an atom was the smallest thing until they splitted it open and found electrons, protons and neutrons.

about 6 years ago I thought to myself : when we drive a car, is it possible that the things around us move but our body is not really moving?? then just about a year ago I was watching Futurama and they brought up the exact same thing. I then also read somewhere that it was possible. When it comes to science, anything is possible.
