I feel like I'm one of the few here, but I still don't think the new 7-Series looks much better than it's leaked photos. It's just doesn't have that "wow" factor.

By the way, don't get me started on those BMW 7er marketing videos. A guy in the woods grabbing tree leaves and staring at a tree in the forest? A guy swimming in a lake? And that dramatic music playing in the background? Really? I'm not sure what the marketing people are trying to convey here but it distracts from the car. It makes no sense at all.

folks, I wanted to comment on one thing...it may not be 100% relevant to this thread, but certainly about why some friends like it and some don't...
"taste" is a derivative of "lifestyle". The design of a car simply resembles our lifestyle and there's nothing wrong with liking something over the other and the other way around...
Even if you take a look at Bimmer and Merc's magazines, they are completely different...even the advertisement of products from clothing, fragrance, furniture,... are different in both magazines. Even each company's marketing "fonts" are different...Merc leans towards more classy and elegant products, whereas Bimmer leans towards modern and trendy designs and offerings...
That is why, some of us can never get S class's dash board, air ducts and rear taillight's design and some others find it fascinating...or why some prefer the simplicity of the Bimmer's design and others don't get the hockey sticks on the side or find the design dull...there's nothing wrong with any of the comments...
But let's not hammer the cars, or accuse the makers...each of these cars have a message and a target market they are after...why would they want to target the same target market which would mean decreasing own market-share?! there's no doubt that both of these cars are the super mighty & state of the art masterfully-crafted piece of machinery...I believe it all boils down to our "tast" and "lifestyle"...
So for those of you already own an S-Class or those lucky ducks planning to buy this beautiful 7-er, ...well happy driving!

that was funny...but there's more to car advertising than the car itself...
The advertisements simply link the car to sustainability, efficiency, nature and conservation... technology, being a friend of nature...you'd be lying if you said it doesn't create that background in your unconscious mind... you can't advertise a car in pollution, traffic or other scenarios as such...

I still don't see that link. I see what you're saying now, but at the time, it didn't make sense. It doesn't create a vision of sustainability or any of the other you mentioned in my mind. Looks more like using more of our environment's resources to build something we really don't need. I wouldn't say that a dirty polluted city isn't a good idea. In fact, it does sound like a better idea to me especially around here where we sit in traffic most of the time in a very polluted city. It would convey a sense of comfort, luxury, and calmness more than some guy staring at a tree. An escape if you will.

I showed a group of friends that video and every one of them was like "What the f**k is this s**t!"
