I will pick up my marbles and go home. However, sooner or later you too might have a problem with BNWNA the way I did. And when you do, don't bother posting it here because I will show you the same support you've given me.

I deleted it. But, in short, BMWNA promised to fix the BMW assist feature in my X1 about a year ago. And, now they refused. It's still under warranty.

I know, BMW assist might seem silly. But, to me it's peace of mind when my kid drives the car. It was a selling feature of the car.

And what is the issue...Did you opt out of the Com box update?
Is it having a malfunction?
Did you get that they were going to fix it in writing?

No, I specifically opted in to the combox update.

Yes, I have it in an email that this would fixed under the new car warranty.

Then go to the X1 forum. This isn't a free-for-all for bitches, gripes, and complaints. You have an X1...don't clutter up the 7 Series forum.

As a 7 series owner, I thought this was relevant and pertinent.

BMW is not honoring the warranty.

The BMW assist in my car doesn't work where I live. Just for fun I talked to the folks at my dealership about it and they were surprised to hear that. They offered all sorts of repairs to fix it and since it was at the time covered under new car warranty I figured sure I'll let them try.

However, they were unable to fix it. Or rather it was never broken in the first place because it worked just fine for them in the city, but out of the city it wouldn't work. I believe this was caused by, in Canada, the BMW assist using a Rogers cellular connection and in my area Rogers doesn't work. However, I didn't really care about it so after they tried fixing it twice I phoned BMW Canada and had them cancel the subscription and give me a full refund of the BMW assist feature on my car. I believe it was worth around 200 dollars - but this was years ago.

Besides its a useless device. We all have cell phones and if something were to happen the cell phone is far better than the car making a phone call to who knows where to try to find you. My parents have a BMW and the machine died on them in Montana, USA and they used BMW assist and they wanted to tow their car about 1500km to the closest dealership. They declined and instead found a better option without BMW assistance and sent the folks at BMW the bill - which was paid.

That reminds me of another story with GM's Onstar - a similar system to BMW assist. About 15 years ago or so a friend of mine bought a brand new Escalade and we took it out ice fishing up on Lake Winnipeg. We had tried a few spots but we were unlucky with catching fish so we kept trying a few more. Well as luck would have it it was getting dark and we weren't sure where the closest spot to get off the ice would be and we figured we would try the Onstar button. So my friend hits the button (this was back before the truck had in dash navigation) and hopes to talk to someone to get route guidance back to shore. Turns out that the fine folks at Onstar were based out of a deep south state in the USA and it was outside of their realm of consideration that someone would take a truck out onto a lake. The conversation went something like this:

Onstar: Hello welcome to Onstar can I help you?
Nathan: Hi yeah, we are a bit lost can you tell us where we are?
Onstar: Ummm something is wrong?
Nathan: What do you mean?
Onstar: This can't be right it says you are in the middle of a lake.
Nathan: No that is correct. I'm trying to get off the lake.
Onstar: What?
Nathan: Yeah, can you point us towards a dock?
Onstar: Does the captain not know where you are going?
Nathan: What captain?
Onstar: On your boat.
Nathan: We aren't on a boat we are driving around.
Onstar: You can't be.
Nathan: Yes we can.
Onstar: No you can't,
Nathan: Sure we can - just tell us are we closer to the east coast or the west coast.
Onstar: Uh the west side.
Nathan: OK sounds good.

After the converstation we laugh because this lady must have been thinking we were in a serious bit of trouble. We got off the ice and had a great time afterwards.

But yeah - BMW Assist is about as useless as Onstar.
