C&D Lightning Lap 2017

Not sure if anyone else keeps up with these, but I look forward to it each year.

Some glaring omissions this year, for sure. Also some big surprises. BMW didn't fair well. Mercedes dropped bombs. There were other various hits and misses.

Discuss.

Yeah, 1LE was a beast, as expected.

Civic Si, Audi S8, Lexus LC, and Alfa Giulia turned in some surprising laps.

Both AMG's put up shocking numbers. The GT R is just nuts.

Shame to see the cars that were missing.

More conspicuous in its absence than the Ford GT and Lamborghini Huracan Perfomante is the Honda Civic Type R. Based on all the hype, that one would have been very interesting to see the results from.

The Alpina looked like it was going to roll on that first corner.....the other BMW's were disappointing to say the least. I love the Green Monster!

The cross section of cars seemed a bit odd to me.....

M240i did worse than the outgoing M235i......hrmmmm. M2 clear evolutionary improvements over the 1 series, 2 series and 1M.

Camaro beat my Stingray.....le sigh.

I saw the Merc at the US Open in NY the other day. The car is stunning in person.

Well, I did pay about $16k less than the ZL1 1LE, so I have that going for me.

I just checked out the list again and saw where the 718S landed. Really glad I was torn between the M2 and the Stingray.

I am pretty picky with cars, and the ZL1 is my first American car, but I am pleased with the overall quality of the car. There is a version of this car that is very inexpensive, and there are places where you can see that cost saving measures were taken, but that shouldn't surprise anybody.
For example: the top edges of the trunk liner are held in by the weather stripping, I had to put it back in...not really a big deal but something I noticed.

if you use the latch system Chevy just just put the anchors behind the padding and you basically have to push the seat padding aside to access the anchors and they didn't 'trim' around it, kinda ghetto, but that is going to be common to the base model and really, how many people are going to put a child seat in the car.

The dash is hard plastic, but it looks nice, and there is almost no need to ever touch it.

What the car doesn't have is/are any squeaks or rattles, all the panels fit nicely inside and out.

It has every 'option' (option on other cars) that you can imagine and everything works.

Its performance is undeniable, and it is covered under factory warranty ON THE TRACK!

i didn't expect the AMG GTR to be the fastest here. I thought the 1LE was going to take the title, but the merc destroyed everything. Impressive.

Would it have R compound rubber, gutted interior, etc. like the example used on the 'ring for marketing purposes? It wouldn't so Honda wussed out.

As much as I’ve always wanted a Corvette, I could never get past the interior. The C7 is finally changed that for me. I don’t think the Camaro is quiet as nice but the interior is decent and I wouldn’t complain about it. I just can’t see anythain’t out of it.

Outward visibility is the most commonly stated complaint about the 6th gen, and a complaint that my wife has. I personally (obviously) don't think it's that bad, there are blind spots for sure, the rear side glass is small and the c pillar is pretty large, a properly adjusted mirror solves most of this, if i am first in line at a stop light sometimes i have to lean forward to see the light (usually there is a lower light to the side that i can see). Once you are on the road i honestly don't think visibly is a problem at all (I was very concerned about this when i ordered the car, I think the seats in the ZL1 sit lower then other spec Cameros, which helps), after a 15 mile drive it's just normal.

I really like this car, the power is just stupid fun, and it likes being chucked into a corner.

I was at a metering light to get in the freeway today, so just for fun i mashed the gas pedal, this sillly car will just shred the rear tires until you lift, it's awesome, I'm glad i don't have to pay by the giggle

Clearly you haven't heard of the Light In Sight? Cheap on Amazon and actually work well, had one on my Miata.
