Front Bumper Damage Repair Insight

Stupidly damaged my front bumper today.

Ice caused a slide into another car in my driveway.

Minor, but repair and paint definitely needed.

Thoughts on what I should expect to pay?

Is it unwise to suggest that the bumper not be removed on painting to keep cost down?

Pictures to follow.

Pissed.

Its cheaper to remove the bumper and paint it off the car than have to tape everything off around it. Its not held on by much, just a few screws on top and a couple of bolts in the wheel housings. You could probably do it yourself and drop off just the bumper at the body shop.

Thanks for the reply, Mike.

As promised, pictures attached.

A lot of road salt shown, but I saw the damage when the car was clean, and the scratches are not bad. The gouge from behind will require repair and paint, however.

I'm not sure how the washer nozzle shifted (not allowing the door to close, as shown) when the bumper is minimally out of alignment. I've tried pushing the nozzle to the right, but it won't budge. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Again, the bumper seems to be in perfect alignment otherwise (by the hood, around the headlamps, etc.).

In addition to what's circled, the fog lamp is lose, but works and is not cracked. I believe the bracket broke and hope same can be secured in place without need for replacement. Just called a dealer and the lamp itself is $250! :|

Three random shops came back with estimates of $650, $680 and $800 today; what a waste for sliding into another car in my own driveway.

Argh.

The side just clips on. You should be able to just push it back into the clips, unless the clips broke.

Got it; thanks.

Not sure what's protruding through gouge, though.

Oh wow, I just had the exact same thing happen to my car. In my case though it was someone else backing in to it. I am going to post pictures so you can see how absolutely identical the damage it.

I talked with my insurance adjustor and they think I have 6500 bucks worth of damage. I'll throw up the estimate as well when I toss up some pictures as well here in a bit.

Argh; so we're in the same boat!

Were you experiencing inclement weather as well?

And is your washer nozzle shifted too?

I hope the other car has insurance.

Looking forward to your post.

Sorry. :|

Garage List
2016 BMW 750xi  [0.00]
I had an incident with my garage about a year ago. Very minor damage but close to 600 bucks to repair because taking the bumper off takes a lot of time because of the sensors is what they told me. On a side note, I think this car has some of the worst quality paint that scratches or gets nicked easier than any car I've ever had

Paint quality depends on the color. The silvers and grays are very soft. Supposedly Alpine white is the hardest.

The Sikkens paint BMW uses is far superior to whatever Audi uses though. A pile of snow chipped and scratched the crap out of my A6s back bumper.

Not yet.

Car at dealer now and was told I can't stay in loaner while body work is done, so I passed on an estimate from dealer at this time.

I'll keep everyone posted, but may wait for better weather.

Thanks!

I didn't snap any good pictures... but I did get a security camera footage of the incident. The winter season has me working pretty much from sun rise to sun set so I never really had a chance to get a picture of it in the day. [u2b]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDlaeeaNAKM[/u2b]

The video is hilarious though! The police have been looking for this person and they have come up blank so far. I hope they find him but I am not holding my breath.

And yeah my washer nozzle was shifted. It was a beautiful night just below freezing and clear out. The other car ran so I doubt I will get his insurance. The police are looking for him now. A feature of where I live and government insurance is if they don't catch the guy I pay a 100 dollar deductible and because I have video proof I wasn't driving it doesn't go against my license. So worst case, I get my car fixed for 100 bucks; best case I get my car fixed for free.

WOW! INSANE. Must've been under the influence.

$100 with no at-fault claim history is a good deal.

Pay the deductible and get reimbursed if he's found.

Hopefully other cameras in the area caught his license plate number.

Still interested in pictures when you get a chance.

Good luck!

With better weather now, I've brought my car to a body shop for repair; $760.

Will post again when complete, but doesn't look too bad without a front bumper (cover)...

Final photos attached.

Not completely happy with the job.

Difficult to capture, but slight imperfection remains where repaired.

Otherwise, think I made a mistake with the reflectors. Only 75% sold on the look and unhappy they’re not completely flush with the bumper; driver side worse than passenger side.

Dealer parts department said new ones can be had for about $50 and they attached with double sided tape from behind. Anyone have any removal / installation pictures? And anyone know the cheapest place to source same?

Thanks for everyone help.
