There is guy who works at a LGS who used his Wilson Combat 1911 in self defense where he too was shot and wounded. The WC was covered in blood and then confiscated for about 14 months. In that time it was put into a plastic bag and not opened for the duration. The WC was ruined beyond repair. Lucky for him, he recovered from his wound and his pals at the LGS pitched in and bought him SW 1911.

He now carries and uses a polymer pistol for home defense.
i have given that scenario careful consideration, i decided that if everything was going completely to shit and i need to use a gun, i want it to be one that i trust and shoot well

Fair enough.

Lucky for me, i'm equally, if not more proficient with a $450 glock.

Cocked it the proper and safe way to carry. Never been an accidental discharge this way in 11y years. Hammer down with round in chamber could cause an accidental discharge.

Never carried a pistol a cocked hammer and a round into the chamber, no matter what kind of safe system.

Bellows a list of the different 1911 conditions. Accidental discharges have ONLY been reported in condition 2. If you prefer condition 3 thats your prerogative. But if I'm carrying, I'm not taking the extra second to rack. All my guns are condition 1 when I carry. The 1911 gets a bad rap because the viable back hammer gives people the willies who don't know. But the double safety and locked seat make it as safe if not safer than other pistols. "When the gun is cocked and locked, the sear is blocked from releasing the hammer. Further, unless a firing grip is on the pistol, thumb safety swept off, and the trigger is pulled, the gun will not go off. ... The 1911 has two manual safeties."

These were originated by Col. Jeff Cooper. OBTW, these terms are also applicable to most other semi-auto pistols with exposed hammers:

Condition 0 – Ready to fire: The pistol has cartridges in the magazine, a round is in the chamber, the hammer is cocked, and the safety is off.
Condition 1 – The pistol has cartridges in the magazine, a cartridge is chambered, the hammer is cocked, and the safety is in the up (safe) position. Also known as the “cocked and locked” carry condition.
Condition 2 – A cartridge is in the chamber, the hammer is down, and the pistol has cartridges in the magazine.
Condition 3 – The chamber is empty and hammer is down, but the pistol has a full magazine. This condition is also known as “Israeli Carry.”
Condition 4 – The chamber is empty, hammer is down and no magazine is in the pistol.

My comments:

Condition 1 is recommended for concealed carry.

Condition 2 presents potential safety hazards and is not recommend for either carry or for storage.

Condition 3 could possibly be warranted for open carry in some localities where unknowledgeable people might be agitated if they see you carrying a “cocked” pistol in a hip holster. But be advised that Israeli-style carry requires two hands and more time to get the pistol into Condition 0. (Ready to fire.) The need for two hands could be a problem if you are holding something in one hand, injured, or engaged hand-to-hand.

Condition 4 is how I store our pistols in our gun vault.

It is noteworthy that by SOP, any firearm that comes out of our vault is immediately loaded. Everyone in the family assumes that any gun seen here at the ranch anywhere outside of the vault is loaded at all times, and it is treated as such. Avoiding ambiguity helps reduce the chance of accidents.

See above. Cocked and locked is safer than regular non 1911.

Ok, maybe valid for 1911 but not for SIG225 and 229.

Yes. You are correct. I carry my sig p229 condition 2. Totally different design. That's the proper way for that gun.

That being said how would you suggest I carry this 9 mm 1911 style pocket pistol? No grip safety. Currently caring it with hammer down and one in the chamber

Hmm, not sure. Hammer down means a weird drop might set it off. Extremely rare. Hammer up and safety its only one safety. I'd probably go that route because a drop won't set it off. But I'd follow the makers recommendations first.
