This is how to swap-out the grilles on the G11/ G12
Gentlemen,
I am new here. Excited to be active after perusing the boards for months. My G12 is Singapore Grey with an Ivory White and Black Dakota interior. I didn't build it or else I would have done with Nappa and the Alcantara (composed of about 68% polyester and 32% polyurethane) headliner. Still love the car and my favorite so far after owning many BMWs. Some of you are in SoCal, where I also live, so I hope I'll get to join some get-togethers/ dinners and what have you. Going to change a few things on it to improve the look, and when possible, the steering and body feel. Today, I managed to swap out the grilles for the ///M Performance ones. The slates are still chrome but the black glossy look is gorgeous in my opinion. The part numbers are: 51712289685 and 51712289686. These are the ones you'd get if if you order the car with them. They would be installed at the Vehicle Distribution Center (VDC). I didn't do it because I was meticulous and took my time but my recommendation would be to mask-tape the immediate vicinity to the grilles in case something goes wrong. I used a flat screwdriver to loosen one tab which automatically also broke the two others free on top of each kidney grille. Then it's just a matter of pulling gently and wiggling the anchors and tabs on the side (the inner ones close to the camera were a pain) and bottom (almost no resistance). Here are some pictures. Drop me a line if you have any questions. Next are the amber reflectors and spacers!

I prefer chrome trim over anything else but I can't hide the fact that blacked out or matte trim is very cool too

Chrome is awful. Great mod. Gloss black is the way to go.

This is interesting for me - a pigeon took our half of one side of mine yesterday so was going to call BMW to get costs for a replacement
I read somewhere that they open and close to let in air, so was expecting a large price! Anyone else had theirs replaced at a dealer? |
